Linux Remote Desktop

Linux Remote Desktop

In Spring on 2018, I took a course entitled Enterprise IT Architecture which required me to use a remote desktop in order to access the virtual machines we created in Microsoft Azure. This is a function that Windows computers inherently have, and Apple computers can easily obtain. Unfortunately, I am limited to a Chromebook, which is a Linux based system. After conducting some research on how I was going to complete the required coursework, I found that there was a way to utilize Linux to connect to a remote desktop.

After installing the necessary programs and operating system, I used a remote desktop client called Remmina. To use this program, you need to utilize a .RDP file which Azure provides for download, specific to a virtual machine. When I tried inputting the file into Remmina, I was met with an error not allowing me to connect. To get around this, I deleted a line in the file, specifically the last one. After doing that, Remmina connected to the virtual machine will ease. Because of this, I was no longer limited to complete required work and exams. This endeavor gave me a deeper understanding of Linux, and other systems as well since many of them are based on this operating system. Research, as well as trial and error, exposed me to a new world of knowledge I did not expect. Ultimately, it taught me to push myself and learn new things. With this kind of drive, I will be able to adapt to the ever-changing technology world around me.
