New Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Cybersecurity Reporting Rules for Public Companies
This webinar was hosted by Carly D. Papenburg and the speaker was Thu Nguyen. She is part of the Audit Leadership Management team at Wells Fargo. She is also connected to many other programs that are IT-related and is an advisor at Temple. During the webinar, she mainly talked about the statistics of cybersecurity and why it is an ongoing threat that she stated, does not have a light at the end of its tunnel. She showed us a map of live cybersecurity threats that are happening around the world which I thought was really cool. She also talked about how these cybersecurity threats are reported, and how they are classified. For example, breach reporting was one of the main ones she talked about, and she gave us some background knowledge on how these incidents are described and why the nature of these incidents matters in order to protect us from threats. Cybersecurity is definitely something I would like to get into more as it is getting more dangerous as technology develops, but it also gives great opportunities for students like me who want to enter the field. At the end, she had a Q&A and the webinar was over.
