2024 Cyber Threat Intelligence Trends and Predictions
Thu Nguyen, Associate Vice President at Wells Fargo and part of the Audit Leadership Management Team, presented trends and predictions in different areas of cybersecurity for 2024. This event occurred from 03:30 p.m. until 04:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 15th, through Zoom and was sponsored by Temple University. The speaker started the presentation by informing us about “hacktivism,” a highly concerning phenomenon, as it uses hacking techniques for political or social causes. Hacktivism allows hackers to subvert attribution and avoid accountability. Another unpleasant prediction suggests that the volume of data exposed to breaches/leaks will increase due to the evolution of ransomware attacks and sophisticated cyberattacks (e.i. cloud intrusions). Moreover, the government and other institutions should take preventative measures for AI-driven cyberattacks or deep fakes, where AI becomes a source of misinformation. The speaker concluded the event by advising us to be aware of scammers and safeguard our personal information.
