SQL for Finance Professionals
I completed the “SQL for Finance Professionals” LinkedIn Learning to gain more knowledge on how to use a structured query language in day-to-day work in finance. This LinkedIn Learning course was taught by Megan Lieu, a financial analyst turned data scientist. At first, Megan introduced SQL as an essential tool for those who work with vast amounts of information (adding, modifying, and analyzing data). She then walked us through different SQL data types, showed us how to create a query, and explained how to use certain functions to perform calculations with data. Afterward, she speaks about how SQL is used in the world of finance, going into detail about finance-specific applications of SQL. She explains the difference between the use of data in finance and fintech and demonstrates how to use SQL alongside Excel, another essential tool for finance professionals. Megan provided exercise files for the audience to work on and check their understanding of the SQL mini-lectures. She also provided the answers to compare and make the necessary corrections. While I am familiar with SQL, I was curious to see how I can utilize the tool to work on financial data.
