Volunteer Work
Gilda’s Club South Jersey
Throughout high school and during college break, I volunteer at Gilda’s Club South Jersey. A place where people go who are affected by cancer. Volunteering at Gilda’s Club was one of the best things I could have done for myself. Throughout my time here, I learned how evil cancer can really be. I was dealing with children who lost their loved ones, who were diagnosed with cancer, and who were on the verge of losing someone they held close to their heart. Cancer does not discriminate and talking to these innocent kids about their lives showed me the harsh realities of our world. I volunteered there so the kids could have someone to lean on. In their time of need, I wanted it to be me who they could turn to for comfort. During my time I helped plan arts and crafts events to uplift the children and was the hand that guided them into discussion reflecting on how they were coping with their current conditions.
TEMPLE COMMUNITY GARDEN
I volunteer with BHSA to garden at Temple’s Community Garden. I built a green house and mulching the surrounding area. It was a great opportunity to give back to my community and meet some amazing people!
TANNER G. DUCKREY SCHOOL
During October, I volunteered my time to help the children of the Duckrey School. I was assigned the task of helping a struggling student, Zach, perform and understand math equations. We went through flash cards step-by-step, then I encouraged him to try a handful on his own. It was an awesome experience because I was able to help Zach learn and to feel more confident in his abilities.
