Student Worker, MBA Marketing Department

As a student worker in MBA Marketing Department, I have learned a number of crucial things that have helped me grow and learn as a student and as a business professional. The Graduate Department as a whole, is a close knit community, that consists of approximately 50 employees. The MBA marketing department only has about 10-20 employees that value teamwork and effective communication. I think that working within this specific department has really helped me build connections with a lot of my colleagues and I don’t think a lot of larger companies offer such interpersonal communication.

I do a number of administrative tasks for the Senior Associate Director of Marketing, like organizing inventory and counting out merchandise, brochures and booklets for important upcoming events.I also schedule conferences, book hotels and manage travel expenses for the Assistant Dean of Marketing. In addition to providing administrative support, I create and update databases to  track and record over 1,500 jobs that are completed by the MBA department. That includes jobs like digital, paper and radio advertisements, as well as ‘out of home’ billboards that you could see anywhere from I-95 to bus stops and buses.

One of my favorite projects I completed for the marketing department, was a competitive analysis report that compared our different MBA programs to other Greater Philadelphia located MBA Schools. This was one of my first projects and I really enjoyed the research that involved it. Although, not MIS oriented work, it was a great project to start this internship off, because I got my feet wet with who our competitors are and how we make ourselves stand out against them!

Another important task I am responsible for is running biweekly one-off email reports from a database platform called Watson Campaign Automation. With this platform I am able to pull and analyze metrics like click rate, open rate, bounce rate, etc. For instance I can go in by MBA program and pull any email sent from our department and see how ‘successful’ that email was, so how many times a prospective/current student clicked on a link provided, or if the link worked.I think this is the most MIS related work, even though it is more Digital Marketing oriented. I learned how to use this software and offered information on how to fix technical issues in certain emails or try to figure out why people were not recieving an important email. This type of work actually was the thing that prompted me to switch into MIS.

I am grateful of the experience I have had here at Fox. It has taught me to become more well adjusted in business environments and has prepared me extensively to start internships with other companies. I am very excited to continue to work for them this summer, where I will be handling more MIS oriented work and get the experience I need in the field!
