Using OpenStreetMap Data for Urban Spatial Analysis: Crowdsourced Geography for Research
I attended the workshop “Using OpenStreetMap Data for Urban Spatial Analysis: Crowdsourced Geography for Research” which introduced OpenStreetMap (OSM) as a powerful open-source resource for urban research and spatial analysis. The session covered how to navigate the OSM ecosystem, extract urban datasets such as roads, buildings, amenities, and land-use information, and assess the quality of crowdsourced geographic data. I also learned how OSM data can be downloaded and integrated with GIS tools for spatial analysis and urban research applications. The workshop highlighted how researchers and analysts can both use and contribute to this global mapping platform, providing valuable, up-to-date geographic data for studying cities and built environments.
