Foundations of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
I completed the GIS foundations course which was instructed by Jennifer Harrison, where it focused on building a strong foundation and understanding of Geographic Information Systems and how they are applied in real world applications. As a student, I engaged with the material as I do have some prior experience in this field. During my last internship, I worked as a GIS data analyst, utilizing mapping tools and analyzing spatial data – So this course helped me expand my understanding of concepts I had already been exposed to in a professional setting. New things I learned more about were GIS layers, attribute tables, and how spatial data can be analyzed to identify patterns and support decision making. I also learned more about raster data and lidar, which broadened my perspective on advanced GIS capabilities. This course strengthened my ability to apply GIS in both personal projects and future roles in data analytics or GIS-related positions.
