Right Sean, accurate data and reports are the life blood of an effective sales force. Without it, management doesn’t have the data to make good decisions and sales reps don’t have the tools to turn leads into customers. The result? Lost opportunities and revenue, frustrated users and customers, and a lack of user adoption. It is also good that you…[Read more]

Laly, you are absolutely right.
Also if you think about changing an existing master data for vendors / customers such as bank data can lead to fraud if not properly monitored. For example, if the person authorized to edit master data can change the details without confirmation, he/she may change the bank account of the vendor to his/her own bank…[Read more] -

Laly, I actually read an article which mentioned the need for financial master data management (MDM). In fact, investing in a Financial MDM is a good way to align master data in different applications and does not require a huge budget. Financial MDM allows business users to centralize, update and publish trusted and relevant master data to…[Read more]

I definitely agree with you on the fact that inaccurate data present bigger risk for a company. Take the example of a company who send personalized documents to their customers. Sending the wrong information to the wrong person can have detrimental effects on their business. Some of the consequences include, breaking customer confidentiality ( by…[Read more]

Paul, I like the fact that you mentioned the idea of having a data steward. It is an ideal position to help with an effective governance strategy for data quality, since governance must cascade across the entire organization to ensure that appropriate accountability is enacted and enforced. In fact among other things, data stewards are responsible…[Read more]

Which transaction do you believe is the most ‘Sensitive’ and therefore should have extra focus in an SAT (Sensitive Access to Transaction) audit? Explain
I think the sensitivity transaction codes vary depending on the time of year and the characteristics of the business. However, transactions like FS00 (G/L Account Creation) for finance teams…[Read more]

Actually one of the biggest misconceptions in cloud security is the perception that identity management and access management are the same thing. Obviously, they’re not and business need to know the differences as well as the basics of an effective identity and access management strategy in order to enhance their information security posture.

Good point Laly. These are really key business function that should be segregated.
A good way to actually “test” segregation of duties is to question some key point. First, ask if any one person can alter or destroy the company financial data without being detected. Second, ask if there is any one person who can steal or alter sensitive…[Read more] -

Definitely Laly, segregation of duties limit the amount of power given to one person within an organization. When done properly it ensures that individuals don’t have conflicting responsibilities or are responsible for reporting on themselves or their superior. But, in your opinion, how does a company decide which duties should be segregated?

Brou Marie Joelle Alexandra Adje commented on the post, Week 9: Questions, on the site 8 years ago
Right Sean, I want to add that segregation of duties is crucial to any organization and can help companies avoid the possibility of disastrous outcomes. I mean imagine what would happen if the keys, lock and code for a nuclear weapons system were all in the hands of one person? Scary right. Same applies to a software engineer who has the authority…[Read more]

I agree with you Sean. SAP has 16000+ transaction code and is complex. The menu hierarchy itself is lengthy and can be confusing to navigate.

1.What is segregation of duties and why is it a commonly used control? Give an example of two (e.g. IT) roles that should be segregated?
Segregation of duties is an internal control designed to prevent error and fraud by ensuring that at least two individuals are responsible for the separate parts of any task.
