Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Discussion Question: Visualization, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 6 months ago
I agree with Sam. My favorite data visualization will change with the type of data being presented. One has to consider the intended audience when designing the graphic, keep it simplistic, yet convey the […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Weekly Question #4: Complete by February 15, 2017, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 7 months ago
I won’t go so far as to say I won’t use an ATM. However, I generally only use ATMs associated with a major financial institution, not some side-of-the-road independent ATM. I’ll also use cash back from places like […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Weekly Question #4: Complete by February 15, 2017, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 7 months ago
I would be wary of this approach, Jo. If there is fraudulent activity on one of your cards, the card issuer is liable. If you lose a bunch of cash, you are liable.
There are free tools that enable you to monitor […] -
Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Discussion Question: How do you detect fraud?, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 7 months ago
My favorite from this list is the ghost employee.
Ghost employees could theoretically be difficult to detect if a person has enough knowledge of the ERP’s architecture and interdependencies with other applications. -
Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Discussion Question: Target Data Breach, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 7 months ago
As others have noted, this article is a great timeline of events leading up to and following the attack. It seems, unfortunately for Target, all the necessary technological protections were in place, and the […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Discussion Question: Theme-Park Visitor Tracking, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 7 months ago
For starters, I think the Magic Pass is a great implementation of RFID technology, allowing Disney to accommodate greater numbers of guests within the same area while consistently delivering that “Disney magic” […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Data Theft: This Time It's Personal, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 8 months ago
As others have said, I’d be worried. Not up-all-night, bitting-your-nails, can’t-sleep worried, but more of a worried concern and heightened awareness. I would not wait for the institution to provide a credit […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Recruiting Fraud, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 8 months ago
I agree with you, Caitlyn. A system whereby the recruit verifies the referrer would be relatively simple to implement. Giving the program more visibility would only serve to strengthen the control. An email such […]

I would want to monitor transaction logs daily, making sure that any trigger events that would cause the logs to change would be investigated. I would also want to look at shrinkage and see if instances could be […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Knowledge and Information Systems, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 9 months ago
Knowledge, the readings say, is something we know. For this example, I know how to play Debussy’s Clair de Lune (http://youtu.be/zeHfIsexRZU?t=9s). I can sit at a piano and play the song as a whole without […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Why would you perform a continuous audit?, on the site 2014 Spring – Data Analytics for IT Auditors 10 years, 9 months ago
One key benefit of continuous auditing is that it encourages constant awareness of controls, and compliance with those controls will be greater with continuous auditing. If an audit occurs yearly, or every three […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Q&A: WalMart, on the site Internet and Supply Chains – MIS 3537 Spring 2013 11 years, 6 months ago
Walmart entered the big box arena before the field was saturated. The convenience-store market, on the other hand, is quite saturated, especially in urban areas. There are 20 corner “convenience” stores within a […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Q&A: Final thoughts (100 section reflection on the course), on the site Internet and Supply Chains – MIS 3537 Spring 2013 11 years, 6 months ago
I greatly enjoyed the class overall. To be frank, I wasn’t highly interested at the beginning of the semester, but then I saw how much supply chain logistics affect incredible aspects of our lives. From learning […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Q&A: Will you deliver for Walmart??, on the site Internet and Supply Chains – MIS 3537 Spring 2013 11 years, 7 months ago
1) If the service was reliable, guaranteed, and otherwise low-risk, I would buy products no matter who delivered them, especially if it came at a reduced cost than purchasing through other channels. (I’m a frugal […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Q&A: information goods, on the site Internet and Supply Chains – MIS 3537 Spring 2013 11 years, 8 months ago
SaaS can benefit companies by saving money — they can get software with numerous modules and features without spending the capital on the infrastructure software of this nature requires. They also have the […]

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Q&A: RFID, on the site Internet and Supply Chains – MIS 3537 Spring 2013 11 years, 8 months ago
RFID can reduce shrinkage, give greater product accuracy, and be used in a wider variety of applications than barcodes can.

Gregory R Swenson commented on the post, Q&A: 100 second reflection for week 4, on the site Internet and Supply Chains – MIS 3537 Spring 2013 11 years, 8 months ago
The beer game gave some realistic effects to delays present in the supply chain. A significant change in retail demand can take 6-8 weeks to filter down through wholesalers, distributors and to the factory. Even […]
