The problem with Tesla’s door handle can be represented by the 7 stages of action:
Goal: get the door handle to work
Plan: heat up the car to help unfreeze door handle
Specify: use car key to turn on car/heat it up
Perform: click button on car key
Perceive: nothing happened
Interpret: the heat from the inside didn’t help anything
Compare: the outcome did not satisfy the goal-
Nice application of the seven stages. Of course the better approach would be to not need to heat in the first place,.

Good thinking. Isn’t there also a gulf of execution problem as well though? if the guy can’t even open in the first place?

The design has the gulf of evaluation and execution.
Tesla designs the car, it sets the goal that the door has a good work..
When designers. began to take the action, they ignore the freeze condition.
When customer to execution , they find the the car cannot achieve their expectation because the door handle is frozen.
