Interesting article – there are definite pros and cons to the ERP! I am not sure it is on its deathbed – but this article makes a compelling case – and so does Zach in his comment. Interested to hear what the rest of you think!
I feel that ERP can definitely transition into service-oriented market. Like anything else what makes it good is whether or not it can adapt as time goes on. While it has taken some time it looks like ERP is adapting so as to stay with the times and continue to be used. One way would be to be use a subscription base or at least allow for data to be shown on who has repurchased their subscription and such and who continues to use the services. I think that this is necessary for ERP to continue. I also feel that in general ERP is necessary because it allows for access to all this information. If it could be adapted for use in this age of service I think it could still be of value.
