Conrad’s paper, “Measuring the Strategic Value of IT Investments” was a timely and convincing read for me as I am currently at an IT crossroads at work. I work for a private foundation with a large number of projects and high net assets, but a very small staff and somewhat antiquated processes. I am at the point where I must decide if the…[Read more]

Technology, like most everything, is a mixed bag of good and bad. It provides so many conveniences but provides a new class of fraud and identity theft issues. I never would have believed that identity theft would have become such a common risk for average people. The credit bureau agencies are not pleasant to work with and I cannot imagine how…[Read more]

Kristin Robinson commented on the post, Case Question: Airbnb — Information Sharing, on the site 9 years, 11 months ago
I think it is appropriate for a host to inquire specific information from a potential renter. Because it would be difficult to hold credit card information for renters (due to both security issues and data maintenance issues), hosts should obtain enough background information to make them comfortable with the potential renter Beyond basic…[Read more]

An ‘elite’ reviewer would be an improvement. I find TripAdvisor very helpful. It has yet to let me down.
Flagging reviews that occur from the same IP address is another great idea to cut down on false reviews. I think, and would hope, that is already common practice for these sites.

I just got a new credit card for work and it has a chip in it. This is the first one I have seen. I am hoping it provides some extra protection for us. I wonder if the chip will make the card more likely to break (stop working).

I have not used either Uber or Airbrib, but I am in agreement that if given a choice I would use Airbrib due to the company culture. While both companies appear to have satisfied customers, Airbrib seems to go out of their way to develop customer relationships and loyalty.

It appears that Sunnylake Hospital did not have a strong enough information technology department to develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and measures to prevent breakdowns within the system. Even though they could restore the system, it continued to crash causing wasted employee time. The problems also indicate that a disaster…[Read more]

Like a few other students, I recently left a post stating that technology is not exactly one of my favorite things. Since the question asked about what is one of our favorite things, I figured I should loop back around and clarify. One of my favorite things is the unconditional love of a pet. I have a house full of mammals (husband…[Read more]

I would explain to a 5 year old that Yelp! does not show the opinion of everyone, just that of a few people and the opinions that it does have are possibly not true. Too many people have filled Yelp! with false reviews for one reason or another. It has made the site totally unreliable. I would go on to explain that Yelp! is a poor example of…[Read more]

Like a few others mentioned, I am not driven by new technology. It is clearly a necessity in this age, so I stay up on things as much as necessary. As an accountant, I love Excel. That is about as crazy as I get. The biggest hesitation I had about applying for the OMBA program is how it is dependent on technology that is properly…[Read more]
