This intrusion to the network occurred through the public internet either via a virus downloaded in an e-mail or attached to a web site that someone was browsing. If I were a crisis counselor I would advise Airbnb to get right out in front of the issue. Allowing blogs to raise awareness to the “EJ” incident causes a quick erosion of faith in Airbnb. I would advise they implement a stronger background check, but not one that makes it so cumbersome that it reduces use. I would also advise that they not onl…[Read more]

I have used neither service so I have only an outside opinion. I have had friends use Uber with nothing but positive results. I feel as if they both feel a unique need by providing a more personally controlled touch to services that are often impersonal. I know from those I know that have used Uber, that they feel more in control of their method of transportation but have a bit of a level of frustration with the “whatever the market will bear” costs they are sometimes quoted.

I would also say that perhaps Yelp doesn’t like it when people talk about the place where they work when they are saying things about another business, they just want people to talk about that business

Clearly the Virus Protection Software implemented was not updated regularly or not comprehensive enough to catch the intrusion. I think the core reason is that IT was in a mode of comfort and celebration after implementing the EMR. The, after implementation, as happens too often, there was not enough hands to maintain the environment and look to he future. I would hold Jacob entirely responsible for that. All that aside, to ensure that this did not occur again, I would evaluate the means by which internet was delivered. I would consider providing a redundant plan implementing possibly a Private Network that cared for the EMR. Secondly, I would virtualize the environment so if an attack like this ever occurred again, I could take the system off the outside internet and switch to my backed up EMR and system. Obviously I would upgrade virus and spam filtering and review my web content filtering policies, potentially even hiring an out side Service Provider to do so. While avoidable in many ways, this event raised a high dose of reality to Sunnylake.

I would advise they implement a stronger background check, but not one that makes it so cumbersome that it reduces use. I would also advise that they not only provide damage restitution to “EJ”, but then add an insurance protection plan for both renters and hosts. When that had been agreed upon, I would put my marketing team to work to share publicly that they not only acknowledge that the incident occurred, but that they were taking steps to prevent such incidents in the future. Finally, after the hopeful acceptance of restitution to “EJ”, I would advise they request a statement of satisfaction that while Airbnb had regrets that the incident occurred, they had done something to make “EJ” feel as if they truly were behind their hosts in the event of incident.
