Amazon is taking on a initiative to harness the power of the internet of things before the things get to our homes. This reminds me of the the talking point we brought up in class which was that we may not need every appliance in our houses to have a microprocessor, rather a central unit of command that takes input from everything else (smartphone in this case.)
In my opinion, this Dash Button thing is going to fail because it isn’t a seamless integration into people’s life and could be easily substituted by a technology that consumers would own anyways likes smart watches. However, this initiative will enforce the idea that automating time consuming parts of our lives (such as doing groceries) doesn’t have to be a high tech solution.

The convention has always been you get a new idea, you write a proposal, request funding, assemble a team, build it, perfection it and implement it then hope that it would work. Or if you’re an entrepreneur, you […]

I can add some perspective about IT related risk:
During my risk management classes and internship, most articles and seminars seem to push the insurance industry toward paying more attention to IT risk. Insurance companies are finally catching up to issue and advising their clients on how to properly manage this type of risk i.e cyber…[Read more]

I agree with the idea. Although it is possible to create a culture of innovation and creativity, it is flawed logic to assume that an organization can plan on disrupting markets on call. What can be done is to cultivate the employees mindsets and approaches and provide them with the resources and empowerment necessary to create new things. Those…[Read more]

This minimalist architecture seem to be ideal for encouraging creativity and keeping the workplace interesting and stimulating. I personally would enjoy working in such an organization. Performing the same tasks over and over makes employees too comfortable with the status quo which is part of why they become resistant to innovation later on in…[Read more]

I like the concept. Right now it’s invite only but the button is free for Prime members so I can see a lot of people jumping on it.
If you see an item that needs restocking and the button to replenish it is right next to you, then the integration is more seamless than having to purchase the item on your computer, smartwatch, smartphone or going to the store. In addition, it looks like you can cancel your order if the button was accidentally pressed by children or pets. I think that implementing a fingerprint scanner may be a good idea, albeit more expensive for Amazon.
