I would remind myself of where technology was five years ago (2015) and how far things have come along. Technology is today, tomorrow, and future. The progresses made in technology in five years will be leaps ahead of where we are today. I would also remond myself to never take technology for face value as it will continue to shape our society.

One of the biggest advantages of digital media is its ability to be interactive. By that, I mean that digital media has the ability to change, upgrade, and transparent. However, I believe that many labels refused to convert to digital media because they would lose control. The consumer and the artist would have more control over the products;…[Read more]

Great comment Mariya. I agree that a top-down approach could change the culture and be beneficial for a company. However, I also believe that empowering all employees within a department and/or company is of great benefit too. I think, and it’s sad to say, that financial incentive is a huge player when it comes to people’s performance and…[Read more]

Siemens open innovation led to many great ideas within and for the company. I did like the various contests to promote open innovation. Of all, my favorite was the Idea Generation Contests. This particular contest consisted of two phases; the generation and the improvement of ideals. I believe that each component requires a different type of…[Read more]

Hi Diane,
The concept of self-publishing seems a little scray to me. Is there a reason you are chosing self-publishing instead of going through a regular publisher? Do you believe that they will change the contents of your book to meet their own agenda? I am curious as to what factors have/are contributing to your decision. -

As defined in Wikipedia, disruptive innovation is ‘innovation that helps create a new market and value network, and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network (over a few years or decades), displacing an earlier technology.’ After reading the article by Christensen and thinking about my own personal preferences, I truly hope tha…[Read more]

A community of practice is comprised of a group of people who share a common concern or a passion, learning how to improve upon it while meeting on a regular basis. It has three characteristics; the domain, the community, and the practice. Although I am not a direct member of this organization, I do participate in fundraising and special events…[Read more]

Jon,
Great suggestion. By supporting BYOD, companies are able to save money and utilize these savings in other areas. This will also allow employees to better utilize their time and be more efficient. -

Hi Amanda,
Great summation of the article and view point. I like the idea of Amazon offering the abovementioned services to other companies in order to recuperate their expenses. The one thing that came to mind is once they sell their software and/or systems, who would be in charge of system maintenance? Amazon or the company who purchased…[Read more] -

Hi Kristen,
You bring up a great point. Since you company is a logaistics company, they should be more IT saavy, as that is what’s expected of them from their customer base. Do you believe that the level productivity is higher when people BYOD or when they utilize the company issues products? Also, does your company customize the BYOD to…[Read more] -

I truly believe that information technology has opened to the door for many companies, to include Wyeth, to become the leaders in their business lines. Although Wyeth was already a global company, IT globalization enabled it to become a more efficient, thorough company. It allowed the company to reach more manufacturers and local businesses…[Read more]

During the IT heyday, Wyeth was facing many systems issues when dealing with globalization. ERP allowed…[Read more]

Generally, companies view technologies as a one size fit all. However, in recent years, employees are pushing for a BYOD supported workplace. This allows employees to access company-wide resources and do their work on the devices they choose rather than the hardware approved by IT. However, accommodating BYOD is not necessarily feasible for all…[Read more]

Hi Mike,
I found your analysis very interesting. I was wondering, was the transformation due to the growth in the industry or due to loss of customers? Like any busniess, I am sure your company also goes through cyclical downturns when related to customers. At my prior employer, we were in the business of providing an array of financing…[Read more] -

Hi Mariya,
I could not agree more. The core of the problem is leadership. First, I believe that it is managements’ lack of respect for their leader which left the door open for people to view favoritism as an option. Second, by allowing this behavior to continue, Matulovic is cheapening the whole process and its integrity. As you m…[Read more] -

Great post. I could not agree with you more on your statement about structure. I, too, believe that in the past, VW was reactive and not proactive. This is a very tough question as I am sure many of us have been in very similar circumstances in the past. However, I believe that Matulovic should first remind his fellow executives of the decisions that were made when the company was in ‘survival mode’ in the 1990s. He then should remind them that the new priority management systems was imp…[Read more]
