Besides learning knowing how to use visualization programs such as Tableau my biggest takeaway was understanding the difference between knowledge, data, and information. Knowledge is what we know, personal map of the world. Data are the facts or descriptions of the world. We can capture data in information, then move it around for analysis.

For data.gov I would make it more visible by advertising it so people know it exists. Also possibly taking user feedback to improve it as well.

I thought it was interesting to see how my previous job and Nina’s were similar but also very different. I also worked in the AP department of a real estate firm as well. I would consider an ERD an example of a mix of the three – data, info, knowledge. The information is needed to build the ERD example and from it we can interpret the data which forms knowledge on the subject matter. By essentially drawing the map, we can better understand the relationships amongst different entities and how one effects another.
