Wyeth went through a dramatic transformation from being a company that mainly owns other company’s stock, to a global company with information technology playing a critical role. Initially, the pre-globalization IT role is explained, as well as the uphill battles of initiating a globalization movement. Realizing a key factor in integrating a globalization strategy was IT, there was a major and optimistic IT plan outlined, which altered business processes as a result of changing various systems and practices. Needless to say, the implementation got off to a slow start as a result of resistance, funding, management discrepancies, and modifications pertaining to the new plan. It seems as though IT within Wyeth was understood to be a rather insignificant source of operations support, however, it was IT within Wyeth that enabled the company to undergo major structural changes, and essentially remodeled a holding company into a global competitor with information technology as its most crucial influence.
