With the technology we have today ERP are becoming updated along with it. Cloud ERP are more popular than a normal ERP because of the use of smartphones and other smart devices. This article explains the 5 reasons why cloud ERP are becoming more popular. It states that SaaS (software as a service) solutions will more than double the traditional ERP to 78 billion and that the traditional ERP will decline by 30%, traditional ERP has been declining since 2013. Hybrid ERP save up to 6 times to cost of capital investment for a company cumulatively over 5 years. Therefore it is a better investment for a company to have a Hybrid ERP. It also goes on to talk about how crucial mobility is to help with more complex manufacturer’s supply chain, distribution, selling and service channels. This also brings back BYOD and whether or not employees will be able to use the Cloud ERP on their own devices.
1. Do you think providing employees with smartphone with access to the Cloud ERP system will help with business processes?
2. Do you think that Cloud ERP will help with customer satisfaction overall?
3. Will Cloud ERP completely wipe out a Traditional ERP? and Why?

I believe that providing employees with smartphone/tablet access to a Cloud ERP system can benefit the business process. Employees can have access to the system wherever they may be. The two major issues that I can think of are security and compatibility. Previously in the semester we discussed the issues with BYOD and security; I think that this topic should definitely be a main priority. The next issue is the compatibility and salience with the use of different mobile devices. Overall, I think that Cloud/Hybrid ERP systems are a great idea and will eventually wipe out the traditional systems.

I believe providing employees with smartphones access to a cloud ERP system can help significantly with business processes. As the article states mobility is extremely important to the supply chain process. Furthermore, in today’s environment being able to make decisions quickly and having the information available that is required to make those decisions is vital. I believe Cloud ERP will also improve customer satisfaction, both of the businesses that use Cloud ERP and the customers of these businesses. Business satisfaction will increase because with the SaaS feature, businesses can use a Cloud ERP system as they need it with reduced cost and the customers will be able to benefit from this system even when employees of the business are on the go. However, I do not believe Cloud ERP will completely wipe out traditional ERP. There are two reasons for this. One, major corporations will likely have significant worries about the security concerns with a cloud system. Lastly, for many corporations that have spent millions of dollars on a traditional ERP system, the idea of incurring costs even further may seem unappealing.

Overall, I think providing employees smartphones access will help business processes and productivity using a Cloud ERP. Mobility is clearing becoming a vital factor is these processes and to be able to connect them all under this type of system will only encourage this transition from desktop to mobile applications. I do agree with Will as far BYOD and the security of the system is concerned and it does seem alarming. The risks that outside devices could potentially have on a system if hacked is a relevant issue that has to be addressed properly. The amount of data involved in these processes as well as the financial aspect involved in converting to an ERP system makes it risky for companies to jump in head first without a strong security plan. I think the company must work on securing this mobile system before actually implementing it and address personal smartphone use in particular. But I do think Cloud ERP’s will wipe away traditional one because of the mobility factor that is involved.
