Zach Broyer commented on the post, Case Question: Open Innovation, on the site 9 years, 7 months ago
Reading through the Siemens case I found the idea of open invitation intriguing. Being on the other side of healthcare, specifically the medical side, I find it very difficult to accept that open open innovation would be effective. Because people are in different specialties with in medicine the idea of giving opinions or thoughts for a differing…[Read more]

My friend specializes in Internet and software applications. All of his books or for the most part are guides to using either applications, developing websites, or other internet-based programs. He has even converted his books into MP3s for listening without needing to read the articles. Because of his heavy knowledge in software and…[Read more]

Zach Broyer commented on the post, Reading Question: Community of Practice, on the site 9 years, 7 months ago
I find it fascinating that the veterinary and medical field are so similar in how they are set up. I realize that both are medical type disciplines and therefore use similar group and community type organizations. Both fields of organizations that allow for continued medical education as well as community out reach.

In healthcare there are a number of entities that fit the example of community of practice. I am a member of NASS, The North American spine society, AAPMR, the Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialists and Sermo, a medical organization headed by doctors that are against AMA policies. All of these organizations are medical…[Read more]

I do believe that the role of professional managers will continue much like it has in the music industry. In that industry there have been multiple people who have self published their own albums, Macklemore being the most successful, but it is very difficult to gain traction without significant marketing. Through agents and publishers book…[Read more]

The advent of digital media has been a significant for cost-reduction within the record and video industries. The decreased need to produce CDs or DVDs or other mechanisms of distribution has decreased the cost massively. The negative of digital media is the ease with which things can be copied and distributed. So although the record labels have…[Read more]

Another major advantage of cloud computing is that the large corporations are setting up massive infrastructure for this that should overtime significantly decrease the costs of use. As the costs continue to decrease this may lead to more start up company innovation because the cost barriers will be much less significant at that point.

Zach Broyer commented on the post, Reading Question: BYOD, on the site 9 years, 8 months ago
I do believe that the BYOD situation has significantly benefitted the practice. Now when a patient or a physician calls when we aren’t in the office I can look up the information on my iPhone and don’t need to be at a work computer. This significantly improves the overall care for patients because the old situation necessitated the physician or…[Read more]

Both the ERP system and the global data warehouse allowed for globalization at Wyeth. Due to its initial locally focused corporate architecture a significant investment of capital and time was needed to fully implement the programs. By centralizing product information Wyeth was able to streamline the business. The other possibly more important…[Read more]

Simple Storage Service is a storage entity that provides multiple copies of data in different locations to prevent loss of the data that can be accessed from anywhere on the web. Elastic Compute Cloud is a system that allows for customizable scaling of computing power through the web. Simple DB is a database that allows for simple look up of data…[Read more]

The idea of “the cloud” is that of a bank of servers in warehouse is either run by Amazon, Google, or some of the other large internet companies that allow for storage and web only usage. Rather than you having the program on your computer and doing work and saving it to your computer the program and the storage location for data are in a bank of…[Read more]

As a physician I use an EMR system. Initially the practice I work for had a PC only system. Over time as the physicians have requested Apple product integration the company has moved towards systems that are viable on both PCs and Apple products. The vast majority of physicians in the group have iPhones and use these in order to dictate and…[Read more]

This is a common issue that arises in most corporations. They’re always going to be executives who believe that the rules do not apply to them and request special treatment. Matulovic has to be careful in how he responds to other executives but must continue to treat all programs based solely on the priority management system. He cannot be…[Read more]

The global supply chain management project was only partially funded due to its lack of importance in the prioritization system because it lacked priority to Volkswagen of America importers. This project affected the company at a global level and therefore had less value to those analyzing the NRG. Based on the corporate architecture of…[Read more]

As an aside, I expect the rollout of the new system to be a complete disaster initially. As with all new systems a change in workflow will need to be developed in order to fully maximize the new EMR system. Sadly, no amount of pre-work training and development can fully represent the scale of the effect on workflow until the applications are used…[Read more]

For this question I have decided to describe a group of businesses that I own within the same segment. I have three nightlife entities in the city of Philadelphia. By design each entity targets a specific customer segment so as to not cannibalize the other businesses. The three entities are a concert venue, a nightclub, and a lounge. The concert…[Read more]
