Digital Leader Fireside Chat: Ron Kim, CTO, Merck on What are the Pros and Cons of Careers in Consulting vs. Corporate?
I attended the webinar on February 24th, 2021, sponsored by IBIT. The webinar was hosted by Munir Mandviwalla with Ron Kim, the guest speaker. Ron Kim talked about the industry and his professional journey. Ron is currently working for Merck as Chief Technology Officer. Before this, he held positions at Exelon and Accenture. Two main things that I learned from Ron were to know and have a clear vision of the industry or the company you want to work in because, as Ron put it: if you are not 100-200% sure, then the hiring person will not be sure that you are the right person. Second, Ron mentioned the changes that have occurred in the consulting industry with technology evolution. This is related to my coursework because, through Ron’s presentation, I was able to better understand the role of technology in the consulting industry. I also learned about the transitions I can make between industries with my degree, mostly inspired by the experience Ron shared.
