Business Research Assistant
As a Business Research Assistant, my responsibilities include assisting with data aggregation for various projects and reports, including Fox’s research-based magazine On the Verge. I had to gather citation data from multiple tracking bodies, such as Web of Science and Google Scholar.
One of the projects that I worked on was updating research faculty CVs and bios on their Fox website. I had to develop and manage databases, where I analyzed each faculty CV with their website to identify any discrepancies and corrections. I had to use the VLOOKUP function to find data points through different spreadsheets and arrange them as needed. Taking the data analytics course at the same time helped me better understand my projects, as the course emphasizes on analyzing data and presenting insights from business data. I also worked on researching external funding opportunities for our graduate students, which was sent out in the newsletter every month. Other responsibilities include preparing tables, graphs, fact sheets, and summarizing research results.
This job requires working closely with Associate Dean and Senior Associate Director of Research and Doctoral programs. I learned a lot through this experience; I developed better professional and technical skills. Having to use Excel for all of my projects helped me become more familiar with the software.
