My IT Services Projects

Below are all of the projects I worked on in IT Services. Throughout each of these projects I have learned very valuable lessons and skills in both a technological and management perspective. It is my goal that by the end of my senior year, I will be able to put to use my teachings from IT Services and apply them in a career immediately after graduation. This project list will be updated as the years progress so feel free to track my progress!

Betabeta Alpha Psi Website Redesign –This was the first project I was given after becoming  a member of the AIS organization.  The task was to redesign an organizations website to make it more aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate.  Doing this project allowed me to perceive what the business world is really like and gave me a chance to create my status as an MIS major.  I was subjected to many different types of environments that MIS professionals face everyday, such as minor consulting and website creation.

Going right into this project with “cold feet” was a great experience for me.  It has showed me that with determination  and willingness to stride, anything is possible.  Asking my team for help and not being afraid to do so was the greatest lesson I have learned while completing this project.  Through asking questions, I was able to fully understand how website structures work and did a pleasing job while delivering the project.

Although my team delivered the project successfully, there were some errors along the way that halted our performance.  Communication was key in this project; my team needed to keep in daily contact with not only each other, but also our employers.  We could of done a more sufficient job doing this.  Secondly, delivering the project in a timely manor is key.  For the next project I take in, I would like to space out my work and not rush to have it done weeks in advance.  This creates a large time barrier and will eventually make you forget about the project, which happened in my case.

Overall, the project has taught me valuable lessons and strategies that I will remember when undertaking another project.

carboncalculator

Carbon Footprint Calculator – The second project I was given was to project manage the creation of a website that calculates a persons carbon footprint. The website would then be presented at a major convention held in Center City, Philadelphia called the Green Initiative Awards. Being my first assignment as a project manager, I was able to learn the specific tasks of a PM and how they operate as well as develop my own methods of being a PM. This project was successfully delivered on time and to my pleasure, went above and beyond our clients expectations. Even though I was a PM for this project, the amount of coding and develop done by my two teammates is commendable. I found myself interested and watching them code every step of the way. Being an average coder only working with HTML and CSS, I decided that I too would like to learn more advanced code and since then have been developing my coding skills in c++ and php. This project allowed me to get a taste of what project management truly entails.

DrewDrew Hailey Co. Hailey Co. e-Commerce Mainframe -For this project, I was asked to project manage and develop an e-commerce website for a newly constructed business on the East coast area, Drew Hailey Co. Having both prior experiences in website development and project management, this project went smoothly. My specific role within this project was to create a schedule for each of my teams objectives and lead weekly conference calls with our client. This project seriously put my managing and listening skills to the test; our client was very precise and wanted everything to fit their exact specifications. This website entailed rigorous development on the administrative end working with and developing a functional e-commerce plugin, but through trial and error the website was completed and pleased our client thoroughly.
