Marcellus Shale Research Project
In the spring and summer of 2012, I interned with Grant Street Group in Pittsburgh, PA. Grant Street Group is a technology company with 100 employees that specializes in rapid development of sophisticated web applications that are used by thousands of government and financial institutions to process a variety of transactions including online auctions, revenue collection and distribution, credit and debit card payments, etc. All of their applications require gathering, storing, securing, manipulating, displaying and reporting on huge amounts of data. Grant Street Group maintains the software and hardware on which our applications run. In other words, we offer software as a service.
As an intern, I led a 5 person committee of R&D for proprietary software development in the natural gas industry. I conducted meetings with industry CEO’s, presidents, and representatives; as well as public officials to gain insight as to what needs were present for data management in the industry. I also attended industry conferences and town hall meetings regarding shale gas development. At the end of the summer, I created an in-depth research report, recording findings and providing recommendations for Grant Street Group.
