VWOA’s new project for managing priorities was a major improvement from their previous unsystematic process of SBUs presenting their top three project initiatives without presenting a case on how each project links to achieving the overall strategic objectives. The new process was also more collaborative and inclusive with all functions or d…[Read more]

Hi Steve,
I agree hosts should take the personal responsibility to ensure they are running their business effectively and are abiding by the tax laws, insurance requirements, and the proper licenses. However, I feel Airbnb is acting as a leasing agent for owners to rent their properties. Leasing agents conduct background checks to identify any…[Read more]

Hi Mariya,
Airbnb could offer an incentive by lowering the guests reservation cost if they opt into acting as a reference or they can receive a discount off on their next rental. Also, if you explain to renters that they can help improve the safety for others by becoming a reference and propose them with the following question. Wouldn’t you…[Read more]

Hi March,
I agree the article, The CIO was extremely insightful. Technology is only as good as humans who are using the system and human error occurs frequently. I also believe we will always have hackers causing disruption because humans are more intelligent than technology and have the ability to outsmart information systems or networks. As…[Read more]

Hi Ademola,
You bring up a good point in regards to social security numbers only applying to the US. I think a passport would be sufficient as well, since it’s a government issued form of identification. I like your idea of providing the host with the option to upgrade for more coverage, structured in tiers. If they upgrade, would you have…[Read more]

Hi Kristen,
I agree providing your social security number would present a risk for identity theft if using it when booking a room; however I was thinking the prospective guest would only have to issue their security number one time with Airbnb when they submit their profile for a security clearance. If they are pass a security clearance they…[Read more]

When traveling for business or personal, I usually use Yelp to find local eateries and trusted the reviews to some degree. I ate at some restaurants who received at least 4 stars; however the food was average at best. Now, I understand why it was rated so high after reading this week’s article explaining Yelps filtration system. As consumers we h…[Read more]

I have used both Airbnb and Uber when traveling to France to visit my sister, brother in law, and nephew. Although, we had one bad experience with an Airbnb property, most of our experiences have been positive. Uber has been an extremely pleasurable and enjoyable experience. Customer service of the chauffeurs is outstanding and better than any…[Read more]

As a result of Sunnylake not updating their information systems in three years with the latest security software, their EMS system has been hacked and shut down by a third party who is seeking $100k as ransom. Confidential information as it pertains to patient’s health has gone viral, violating patient privacy rights. The CEO unwillingly did not r…[Read more]

Renters should know the criminal history of their hosts so they know they are renting from law abiding property owners. Hosts should also provide documentation that shows they have property insurance and their property passes the required home inspections to ensure their guests are staying in a safe environment. Every hotel has to pass safety,…[Read more]

If I were a crisis consultant, I would advise Airbnb executives to assume the risk and take responsibility for what has happened. First, they have to clearly articulate any risks associated with renting their properties and what they are doing to help mitigate these risks. Going forward, I would recommend they change their information systems to…[Read more]

I discovered one of my favorite apps when I was on vacation and I was traveling during the holidays. Trivia Crack, has literally been a new addiction that I find myself playing at least once a day. I do not feel as guilty spending a good deal of my time because somehow I convince myself that Trivia Crack is an app that stimulates the mind. I have…[Read more]
