Sezgin Ayabakan wrote a new post, ICE 12.1 Manually Determining the Sentiment of Text Data, on the site Data Science – Spring 2019 – Section 4 and 5 1 month, 1 week ago
Here is the ICE details: ICE 12.1 Manually Determining the Sentiment of Text Data.docx
Negative – “I’m not happy. My Cherry Coke Zero now says Cherry Coke Zero Sugar on it. I bet it will taste like shit like Coke Zero Sugar. If it does, Coke is history with me.” – When it says I am not happy, it shows it is negative
Positive- “Coca Cola makes me happy, I drank some diet today” – When it says it makes me happy and that they drink it, shows it is positive
a) Original tweet: Heart to heart in the cutest dresses and softest sets: precious moments of fun and play. #HMKids #HMConscious http://hm.info/1chx3
b) Comment: Que hermosa ropa! Beautiful clothes!!!!!!!🥰
a) Orginial tweet: Don’t just dream of a place on the podium. Dream of a place in history. #justdoit
b) Comment: I dont know about that Nike, ever since this kid mark parker has been CEO he’s been pretty schemey, starting up all these programs for minorities to rally up people to buy shoes, if Parker really cared he wouldn’t have in kids in sweatshops in Vietnam making them for $2 a piece
Positive: “When is the cereal coming back? I’ll buy ten.” This is positive because a user is asking when another product is coming back, showing that they like the product.
Negative: “Disappointed with the lack of frosting” and also puts a picture of a Poptart. This is clearly negative due to the unsatisfied customer, but the twitter account responds with how they can get a refund.
– Matt Bergeron, Isaac Parlow, Paul Wendt
Positive: “It is delicious!!! My barista makes it perfectly!!! I do always ask for extra ice, which makes it so cold and extra yum”
This statement indicates a positive sentiment given the positive adjectives such as “delicious” and “yum,” as well as the compliment to the Starbucks barista’s skills. This customer seems pleased.
Negative: “I went to order this today and they said they were out of the cloud foam… Boo! 0/10….”
This statement indicates a negative sentiment given the use of “Boo” towards Starbucks and rating the experience “0/10.” It does not seem like this customer is pleased.
Nike tweeted “Welcome to the family, @Naomi_Osaka_ .” (Naomi is a professional tennis player that just signed a deal with Nike).
One of the top positive replies said “Good news. Welcome to the family”
A top negative reply said “I’m sure all the sweatshop workers are delighted with this news” Even though the sentimental word in this tweet, “delighted” is positive world, in this context, it is clear that the user is being sarcastic.

Positive Tim MacMahonVerified account @espn_macmahonMore
Dirk is wearing customized Nikes tonight. LOYALTY across the right toes, LEGACY across the left toes. 41.21.1 on the heels.
Tim MacMahon is giving a positive feed about Nike making customize Nike shoes for Dirk.
Negative- Michael Avenatti- The documents I dropped clearly establish @Nike paid illegal bribes to players to go to certain colleges. How can colleges like @DukeU continue to do business with Nike? Do they routinely do business with companies that pay illegal bribes? This is the example they set?
This is a negative comment because Michael Aventatti is accusing Nike for doing Illegal business.
Negative- “WE LOVE WOMAN. PURCHASE OUR UNHEALTHY CARBONATED SUGAR WATER. THIS IS NOT A COLD HEARTLESS ADVERTISEMENT.” In response to an international women’s day tweet. The sarcasm is palpable as is the frustration with what they perceive as Coke using International Women’s Day for monetary gain.
Poistive- “I love that you’re featuring art from talented female artists today! Speaking of honoring talented ladies in the workforce, @CocaCola, what does your family leave policy look like?” Response to the same tweet. This tweet recognizes the power of a major, powerful company recognizing a holiday meant to honor women and uses the opportunity to start an important and constructive conversation*.
*I acknowledge that Twitter is hardly ever a platform for constructive conversation and a bad place for important conversations
Boeing Negative Tweet: “Truth is you were relentlessly focussed on profits & market share, not safety. Safety was something considered worth cutting corners on, to sell as an optional add-on. Regulation of corporations & capitalism doesn’t stifle innovation; it saves lives. Shame on you all”
Tjis is negative because the person is extremely un happy with the way they handled business.
Boeing Positive Tweet: On this #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate all our female employees who make us better and stronger. #BalanceForBetter
This tweet shows Boeing’s appreciation for the female employees.
