During my internship, the two most important skills that I have been able to leverage are excel and sql queries. The knowledge that I have gained through the 1 credit excel course, along with my on-the-job experience with the application have allowed me to complete reports more quickly and efficiently, and had also given me the opportunity to teach others as well. Additionally, the SQL lessons on how to query information from a database have proved to be extremely helpful as a base for my day to day tasks, using Microsoft SQL Server at Comcast. Although the query language is pretty basic, with simple queries and add,drop, and delete statements. The lessons have proved to be critical in developing my understanding of how the tool can be utilized in a large scale organization.

I would say some of the data tools I learned in Data Analytics have helped me the most during my internship. Data Analytics taught me how to analyze data and how to use different Excel formulas such as VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables. I use VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables on a daily basis at my internship to create reports based on data available on Subaru’s Intranet. The course has helped me in being able to pull reports detailing the company’s inventory and digital marketing efforts and analyze the results. Also, Digital Design and Innovation taught me the basics of setting up a web page. In my internship, I have created web pages for a number of our retailers.

In my internship, I frequently sort through complex Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. We use the spreadsheets to keep track of draft and published articles on salesforc.com. The Pivot Table and VLOOKUP skills I learned in Data Analytics are often helpful when I look at these excel sheets.

At my internship, I often used Excel. As a result, the one credit excel class and the Data Analytics class really helped me accomplish my work quickly and efficiently. Especially in regards to Pivot Tables and using formulas like VLOOKUP. Additionally, I had to do a group presentation analyzing a communications tool called Slack to possibly be implemented into the organization. Therefore, Digital Design and Innovation class taught me the basics of requirements gathering, stakeholder analysis, and business rules analysis. Having previous knowledge of these things helped me accomplish my part of the presentation without any trouble. I was also able to help my group members if they were having trouble finishing up their parts of the presentation.

In my internship, understanding of Microsoft Excel and the use of PivotTables was essential to my success in my position as a Business Services Sales Operations Intern. After performing an audit of Comcast’s salesforce, I categorized the results using a PivotTable. Had I not learned how to use this essential function in my incredibly rewarding Data Analytics class, it would have taken much longer to figure out how to complete this task for my superiors. Also, I learned in my Business Communications vital communication and presentation skills. Had I not taken the initiative to succeed in this course, it would have been much more difficult to present finalized projects to my manager. This is a great question. The key things I learned in my classes that I leverage for my internship are communication skills and data understanding. In Business Communications and Enterprise Architecture, I learned to write concisely. In my internship, this skill helps me summarize my findings briefly and clearly to save the time of those reviewing my work. In addition, my understanding of data from various MIS courses including Data Analytics and Data Science is critical, since most organizations use data nowadays. At my internship, my understanding of data has helped me ensured that I am using data that is correct and suited for my purpose. The classes taught me how to transform data, so I am able to transform data into the most suitable format for the project.

Yes, I could go on and on about how I use Excel within my internship. However, I can also connect my internship to my Lead Global Projects course. In this course, I learned to act as a project manager and manage my team of business analysts. I also learned how to write many different types of deliverables needed to organize and implement a project successfully. Within my time at TMNAS, I have successfully implemented all I have learned within my Lead Global Project course as a Project Management Intern. In this position, I utilize Microsoft Project to make sure the contractors and consultants are tracking their time to be used for chargeback reporting later in the year. MIS Majors learn how to use Microsoft Project within the Lead Global Projects class. I was happy to have known some knowledge about Microsoft Project before I had to utilize the tool within my job.

The most important skills I have learned in the classroom and furthermore leveraged at my internship are Excel-oriented skills, as well as clear and concise writing from my Business Communications course. I work as a liaison between the Marketing Operations team, the Marketing department, out Business Vendors and subsidiaries to relay project status updates to upper level members of the enterprise, which requires a high level of writing. Another part of my job is working extensively with Excel to provide a detailed landscape of the pharmaceutical industry and consumers that AmerisourceBergen serves. I do this by breaking down how consumers are acquired, by which means they heard about us, what industry they operate in, what company they work for, etc. and provide a high-level analysis using different various variables within Excel’s Pivot Table function. These two skills are crucial to my day-to-day operations, and both were learned skills at Fox.

Just as everyone else has stated, the excel skills that I have gained form my classes at Temple have been an incredibly huge help with my internship. I also agree with Kevin that my business communication skills have had a positive impact on how I communicate at work. I mean this when talking about both communicating with other employees and communicating with outside vendors as well. Learning how to use a CRM in MIS 2101 was also a help as it has lead to an increase in understanding of my company’s P2P system.

One of the things I learned in my courses at Temple that I leveraged in my internship is definitely Excel. I used Excel almost everyday at my internship, so my knowledge of excel paid off. In addition, my Data Analytics course came in handy. I used VLOOKUP and Pivot tables that I learned in the course as well as analyzing different data. I also used what I learned in all my BA classes such as written/verbal communication and professionalism.

Just like everyone else, Excel has been a very useful skill I learned from school that I use in my internship, especially the v-Lookup and pivot table features. I have to use Excel to organize and analyze data sets and pretty much use it every day I am there. Other skills include SQL and SAS I learned in Data Analytics, PHP and HTML I learned in Data Applications, and CRM and ERP system knowledge I learned in IT Architecture. I have had to use these skills for business intelligence projects at ReminderMedia and having learned these skills at Temple beforehand, gave me a major head start for my job. I appreciate all of these skills I learned at Temple, however, I think that even though I learned Excel at school, more of the business classes at Temple should include Excel in their assignments. Using Excel at my internship made me realize how much I didn’t know about Excel actually. Like any program, practice and use of the tool makes you faster and better and I think that Excel is such a useful skill for any job/internship and it would help if we got more practice in our courses.

Excel, data analytic, and teamworking skills have all been essential. The excel and data analytic skills go hand in hand as I worked with a number of databases and had to work with and transform data so it was accurate, meaningful, and useful. PivotTables, VLookup, and a variety of relatively uncommon commands than transformed or pulled out pieces of a date or part of a ‘LastName, FirstName” entry. While I had used excel to make graphs and charts before in classes, I got even more familiar with these functions so I could display data trends easily to senior management. Teamworking was also essential. I worked in a variety of teams and even when doing solo projects their were other parties involved such as people I needed information from, my manager, or my supervisor. Fox courses have given me countless opportunities to work in groups of varying sizes and skill sets and I was able to take away lessons from school projects and apply them to my experience with teams at work.

Three things that I learned in the classroom that have helped me in my internship are Excel, writing/communication techniques, and digital marketing techniques. Excel has helped me when working with SalesForce Marketing Cloud for email campaigns. I use Excel to maintain customer lists for surveys, emails, and other marketing purposes. The main function in Excel that I use is v lookup. The writing and communication techniques that I learned in Business Communications have helped me when writing emails to internal employees and external agencies and vendors. Also, when presenting in front of a group or even just participating in a meeting, I’ve utilized the communication skills that I learned in the classroom. The digital marketing skills that I gained in my Digital Marketing class have helped me in my role because most of my work is digital, including email, web, and social media. This class taught me effective techniques for using digital technologies for marketing purposes.

The skills I learned from Digital Design & Innovation and Lead Global Digital Projects were extremely helpful to me during my internship. Both classes taught me the ins and outs of becoming a Business Analyst, the importance of requirements gathering and stakeholder analysis. During my role, I was required to interview a number of different stakeholders, develop the BRD and determine project requirements for my team. Having that firsthand experience in the Digital Design & Innovation class really allowed me to be more confident when communicating with the IT department and speaking with the system analysts on the project about the proposed changes. As for Lead Global Digital Projects, I learned various elicitation techniques that helped me to manage the operations of the project much more efficiently. I would not have done so well in that role had it not been for those two classes.

There have been two big things that I learned in the classroom that has helped me a lot throughout my internship this past summer. First is WordPress, which we used to build out our E-Portfolio and my writing and oral communication skills which I learned in business communications and Integrated Business Applications. Using WordPress in the intro course gave me the foundation to work on my company’s website to fully integrate it into another platform. The original platform for the website was done on Dreamweaver which was difficult to use if you were not very technical. The transition to the WordPress platform made it easy for anyone in the office to update and improve the website when it was needed, Next, was my written and oral communication skills. These skill helped me when I had to give weekly meetings to the entire office about where the website was and how to correctly convey my concerns and problems I had throughout the way. I also had to write up a transitional document for the communications director before I left to make sure they knew exactly what they had to do or refer to it if they had any problems with getting WordPress going.

One thing which I learned from my MIS classes is the knowledge of SQL. This helped me a lot when trying to find customer information when trying to test certain aspects of a webpage. Excel was not used as much as people they it is, it could be a department preference. One thing which I wish my classes taught is Access. It is a great alternative to SQL which is easier to use.

At my internship, I utilize a lot of the skills and knowledge that I have learned at Temple. Since, I rely on Microsoft excel a ton, the excel course has proven too be useful time and time again. Just knowing hot keys and different function has saved me a tremendous amount of time during my internship. MIS 3504 also taught me a lot of research and documentation that I use. A good portion of my internship is being able to properly research and document different information and 3504 thoroughly prepared me for this.

The class I was able to incorporate into my internship the most would be Digital Design and Innovation Studio. The process we went through of gathering requirements, analyzing the stakeholders, and developing proper documentation such as Scope, Swim-lane diagrams, and others has helped me develop my own personal way of handling projects at SEI. When given a project I would have an initial kickoff meeting with everyone involved, during the meeting I would take in depth notes on the requirements. Once the meeting was complete I would develop a Scope document, outlining everything I would accomplish for the project, then review it with the same group. The first time I did this everyone I worked with was blown away by the professionalism of attention to detail. I have the MIS program to thank for my success on projects at SEI thus far.

There are two things I learned from my classes. During my internship, I think the data tools I learnt in Data Analytics class is helping me. During the Data Analytics class, I learned how to use serveal Excel formulas such as VLookups and also Pivot Tables. I used the Pivot Tables at my internship to creat a report with customes and employees in different areas. The other is writting class. It prepared me how to write the professional paper. It is also another way to improve my oral ability. Since I am only token one major classe, I think the most useful is Data Analytics class. The other class is hrm. I think this class is a good tool to go into the business industry. I undertood how present the business professional, and how make a effective communication.

Ironically, the classes that provided me with the most leverage during my internship are the only 1-credit courses of the Fox School Business curriculum. Professional Development Strategies helped with the soft/behavioral skills I needed to work in a professional workplace and Excel for Business Applications provided me with Excel-based knowledge. As previously stated most interns and staff 1employees do a majority of their assigned tasks using excel, so being educated in all the shortcuts, Vlookups, pivot tables, etc. really allowed me to get things done that much more efficiently. The development strategies class went into detail about how to act and communicate in professional manner and this was key to me because as an intern you want to make good impressions on your superiors and colleagues. When we went out on team lunches I knew what not to do and what was acceptable and that went a long way.

At my internship the main things I have been able to leverage and use from my teaching at temple are communication skills, excel skills, and coding skills. My communication training has helped me a great deal. Where I used to be very shy and closed off Temple helped me come out of my shell and learn to be more expressive and I think this was a large reason why I was able to land my internship. Once my internship began I was responsible for updating customer data within the CRM which included a spot for customer emails. My coding experience came in handy because I was able to look in the code of webpages and find emails that were sometimes hidden within the code of an “email me” button on our prospective customer pages. Also at my internship I was responsible for processing customer referrals which included writing out the same note over and over basically with new names and dates in each. I was able to leverage my knowledge of excel to create a note generator making me much quicker and efficient with this process.

A KPI that I use in my everyday life is my Nike Run App. I’m a runner and use this app to track how long I’ve run, my route, my time, and my average pace. This KPI is specific because it gives me exact times and routes, and measurable because it gives me direct statistics of the results of my run. It is achievable because it allows me to set goals for all of my future runs. It is relevant because it is important for my health and well-being and lets me progress further. And finally, it’s time-variant because it gives me all of the specifics of the run, such as when I’m faster versus slower.

I use a sleep app on my phone that utilizes movement in bed to tell what stage of the sleep cycle I’m at, and therefore, what percentage of the time I’m in a deep sleep. This percentage acts as a KPI for my sleep. It is specific and measurable; awake, I cannot be as still as long as I am when I am asleep, and the app is most likely smart enough to know the difference. It is achievable; if I notice the percentage dropping, I know the conditions I’m sleeping under are harming my sleep and alter them. It is relevant, because sleeping more is unhelpful if one doesn’t sleep deeply. And it is time specific; I can look at how well I slept over time or what hours I sleep deeply during.

A KPI that I use every day is the number of laps that I run every time in IBC. It’s specific to my goal of increasing my durability gradually and is definitely measurable. It can also be converted to miles with the equivalent table in the running room. It’s achievable as I can try to run faster and more to improve my durability. It’s relevant to my success of overcoming myself. Lastly, it is time-phased as I also use my watch to count the time each time I run.

One example of a KPI that applies to my everyday life is my student checking account balance online. This KPI follows the SMART criteria by being:
Specific – giving me my exact balance at any given time
Measurable – informing me on how much I have recently withdrew and deposited to ultimately give me an exact balance
Achievable – knowing my balance allows me to realize/recognize my true satisfaction towards my wealth, also, there is an online tool that provides card holders with daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports with how much your account itself has grown, which is encouraging for making goals
Relevant – it tells me what I can and can not afford when deciding on a purchase
Time phrased – it reveals how much money I have earned and lost over any given period of time -
A KPI I use daily would be grades. It’s specific and measurable, because it is out of 100% and is awarded for how much of a specific assignment I get correct. It’s attainable, because if I get everything right I receive a 100%. It’s relevant, because all teachers use it and time bound because it becomes final on a specific date.

The KPI that I use every day is an App that tracks the calories I consume and burn everyday. It’s specific and measurable because it gives the exact number of calories you consume and burn everyday. it’s achievable because I can alter the food I eat and the exercise I attend to keep the net calories everyday to be negative. It’s relevant because the calories I consume and burn affect my health and weight. It’s time specific, because I can get the daily and weekly summary from it.

One example of KPI that I use everyday is a step counter app on a phone. It is specific and measurable because it tells me how many steps I had each day. It is achievable because I can know how many steps i have to keep healthy. It is relevant because keeping steps on average is good for my health. It is time-variant because It tells me how many steps I have at anytime.

A KPI that I used on a regular basis is the Eventbrite Neon App that calculates the number of tickets sold at a particular event. This is specific and measurable, simply showing the exact statistics. It is achievable mainly because you can control when people buy tickets, like having a flash sale that attracts more customers than usual. It’s definitely relevant in terms of how people usually collect money for these events. Time-variant as well because you can continue to look at the progress as much as you like until the event ends.

A KPI I use everyday is the temperature from the “Weather” app on my phone. It’s measurable and specific to the geographic area I am in. It’s achievable in the sense I need to adjust my clothing choices according to whether or not its hot or cold out to be comfortable. It’s relevant because it impacts a ton of daily choices a person (myself) will make (e.g. putting ice in my water or hot coffee in a thermos). It’s time variant because throughout the day and over time you can visually see the recording and fluctuation in temperature.

An example of KPI would be my work hours. It’s specific and measurable as my time is recorded by the hour. It’s achievable in that I can work more hours as needed to reach a certain pay range. It’s relevant because it determines if I’m getting paid enough to pay for my expenses. It’s time variant because I can look at the recorded hours over a period of a week, a month, or just on a daily basis.

I have never made one of these mistakes because I usually don’t work with data or excel, but I would consider not backing up your data before making changes to be the biggest mistake one could make. Forget about square 1 if you find that you have messed up in this scenario because you no longer have a square 1. You have to completely start all over to find the correct data to use. This could be the most detrimental, costly, and timely mistake one could make.

The biggest mistake that I’ve ever fallen victim to with Excel, and I would venture to say that most people are guilty of this in some capacity, is not reading a message before I click ‘yes’ to proceed. Many times we are in too much of a rush for no reason at all and think that there isn’t any way that the message could be of importance. One time in particular, I was doing work for Statistics and accidentally deleted a large portion of data and calculated formulas. Excel caught on and asked if I was sure that I wanted to delete the data, and I said yes without reading the message in-depth, giving myself much more work. I will now be sure to always read those messages.

I haven’t done much work with excel, so I have never had much of a change to make these mistakes. I would say the most important thing to keep in mind while working in excel is to remember while working on the databases to do a full backup first. It’s important to back up any work when working on anything so if for some reason it exits you don’t lose everything that you’ve done. Not doing on a full backup first you could lose all beginning information and any new work you’ve completed, this would be very time consuming and aggregating over a simple mistake.

After just finishing a class in which all we did was use Excel, I can say that I have fallen victim to one of the mistakes. While it wasn’t a grade-killing mistake that I made, it was rather annoying to fiddle with. Using VLOOKUP on Excel is an incredibly useful tool that will help you sort through countless data entries. Unfortunately, it is a little tricky to figure out the first couple of times using it. There are multiple entries that you have to make when using VLOOKUP and if all the entries aren’t precise, you will receive some pretty corrupt data that could have some serious consequences if used in the workplace.

Prior to this semester, I had very little experience with excel, so I would avoid it every opportunity I had. That being said, everything I did in excel was extremely basic, so I never made any of these errors. However, in my opinion, I think the worst error to make would be number three. Although all of the others mentioned sound pretty egregious, without a backup, you don’t have anything to reference. Furthermore, once its corrupted and not backed up, there’s nothing you can do to fix it.

As someone who has not had much experience with excel, I have not made any of the mistakes listed in the article “Stupid Data Corruption Tricks.” Although, I believe that the most important mistake to avoid is to start working on the database without doing a full backup first. By backing up your work at various times, you can go back in case you make a mistake. This can save you time by not having to start from the beginning and can also help ensure that the data manipulated correctly throughout the whole process.

Personally I have not done much with excel nor have I had a lot of experience using it. After reading the article “Stupid Data Correction,” I believe the most important mistake to avoid is the number 1 reason, clicking “yes” without reading first and accidentally removing data from your server. This can be extremely costly for whatever you are trying to do and could erase a lot of data that may have been difficult to obtain and then include.

In my personal experience of using excel, I do not remember that I have made any mistakes. Every time before I use the excel or any computer programs I do save the document, because I know I should do that and I don’t want to redo the work, especially when the work is very complicated and needed a lot of time to finish. And according to the article and my experience, I think the most important part to avoid the missing data or make mistakes is saving the documents all the time before you finish the final work, and carefully see the any reminder that may lose the data or delate your document.

I have worked with Excel before, but I have not used it for any data-intensive operations or tasks that require complex functions. Therefore, I have not fallen into the traps in the list yet. However, I have made mistakes that have element of number 2 and number 3.
I used to work for a non-profit organization. I interacted a lot with data files on the group’s Google Drive. I usually neglected to put Excel files I collected from my colleagues up on the Drive as backups. Because of this, I had to look for a file in the Download or My Document folder whenever I needed it. The fact that I seldom renamed files properly does not help. Given the number of files I had in those folders, it was a tedious and time-consuming task.
I also ran into problems while using different accounts. I used two accounts for work: my personal email account and the group’s account. I made the mistake of making certain working folders on Google Drive accessible by both accounts but making some files only editable by one. I usually found out that I used the wrong account and had to tweak the settings or log out. Sometimes I wanted to send an email on behalf of the group using an email from the spreadsheet, but then realized that I was using my personal email to view the data. It was not until I set up the Drive to accept editing from both accounts that those time-wasting chores were minimized.

I have not made any mistake as stated in the article “Stupid Data Corruption Tricks.” However, I suppose the most important mistake that needed to be avoided is Click “yes” without carefully evaluating the message that says “do you want to remove this from the server?” It will be extremely frustrating if you spend all day or week to work on the data, metadata or the database but suddenly delete all of them in one click. Therefore, I’m always careful in order to not make this mistake while working on the data through Excel or Tableau.

I have never made one of these mistakes. However, I think the most common mistake is forget to full backup first before starting working on the database(Number 3). It is the most important to avoid because if you made some changes on the original data, and later, you want to compare it with the original one, you may lose it or you have to do the process that how you got the original data again. It will waste you a lot of time if you change it and then want it back.

When I first started working I use to open CSV files in Excel. To be honest, I didn’t even know I was doing it. I now always check to make sure it is an Excel file and not a CSV. Luckily for me when I sent an excel document that was supposed to be a CSV file the developer on my team he converted it to the correct format for me.

It’s funny to talk about excel as a Fox student, being that we have about three or four classes based around it. I have in fact made mistake number six recently on an msom assignment. The data type was formatted as such that the dates for he column were (ex. ##/##/##), I missed one of the dashes ‘/’, and it became a larger integer. The thing is, the solution didn’t indicate a problem until I had answered the question. It’s important to double check mistakes.

I haven’t made a mistake as listed in the article, but the most important to avoid is not having a backup of the database before you start working on it. There are similar issue with programs like Word where we type a paper, forget to save, and the program crashes. In a similar way, if something were to happen to the database, it’s a good to have a safety precaution. In addition, if someone was to play around with the database and messed up such as deleting important data, you can refer to the backup to see what was missing.

Balancing work can be complicated; therefore, keeping organized and planning ahead is key. I planned my schedule this semester so that I am able to fully dedicate my Thursdays to my internship. I go to class and do school work on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This is also easy for my friends and family to remember. It becomes easy to manage my priorities when everyone in my life is also aware of them. I write all of my upcoming tasks, both work and school related, in my planner well in advance of their due dates in order to make sure I do everything I am supposed to do and stay sane while doing it. I feel satisfaction each time I check an item off of my to-do list. In my life, organization is essential.

With this semester being the fourth semester I’ve worked a part-time internship and went to school full-time, the biggest thing that has helped me is getting into a weekly routine. By getting myself into a routine it helps my body and mind acclimate to getting up early and makes it easier to switch my train of thought from focusing on schoolwork to focusing on work. Specifically for this class, in the beginning of the semester I went through my phone’s calendar and made events when status reports and other deliverables are due along with several reminders before the due date. This has helped me stay on top of this class’s work and overall I believe I am managing well in my other classes and internship too.

Balancing school and work can sometimes be difficult and time management is essential in ensuring all my tasks are completed each day. In order to make this possible, I like to dedicate the time I have on the train to work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings to plan out what my objectives are for my work day, and what my goals are for homework the rest of the day. I like to look at the syllabus for each class at the beginning of every week, and have a general idea of what time will be allotted to what homework assignment. Recently, this has become more difficult as classes are progressing and group projects are beginning, but strategically planning my day once I wake up is what keeps me organized and goal-oriented. Lastly, in order to set myself up for success each and every week, I like to use Sundays as my “homework day,” so that my weeks can be as stress-free as possible.

I get this question relatively often. I found the two keys for me are emotional management and time management.
Emotional management comes from feeling in control. With a busy schedule, it is easy to let emotions cascade and feel out of control, and that’s how you get in trouble. When you feel powerless, you become paralyzed and feel drained just from the emotional stress. Instead, set aside some time for yourself. Recognize that you need a break and enjoy it fully; you can focus on your responsibilities later. In addition, get things done early and keep everything in perspective. It is impossible to do perfectly in every realm of your life.
For that reason, prioritization is important. You have 24 hours in a day, so time management is critical, and that relies on your ability to prioritize. You need to decide which domains of your life are important and how to manage them. How much energy will you devote to working? Studying for classes? Maintaining relationships? Watching Netflix? You need to also recognize your goals in these realms. Are you aiming for As or Bs? Would your time be better spent focusing on your internship? Do you want to meet with your closest friends daily, every other day, weekly, etc.? The answers to these questions are independent to you and will help determine how to prioritize your time. “I have no time” is an excuse. Everyone has time, it’s how we choose to prioritize it.

Similar to everyone else, I have a lot going on this semester with going to classes, interning, and holding a leadership position in an SPO. My schedule allows for me to focus on my classes and SPO on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I can spend my entire day focusing on the projects I’m assigned at my internship. Being able to separate work from school has really helped me with getting organized. I’ve learned that I need to prioritize my responsibilities each day to make sure I get done what is most important. Also, I learned that I needed to make compromises on certain events in order to get everything done. The structure of my weeks have become repetitive, although the work that I’m doing is always changing –which makes it fun. Having the opportunity to be involved in so much has really helped me and I’m glad I took on the challenge.

Last semester, I was balancing out 2 jobs and my coursework. I had the opportunity to continue working part time at ACE Group last semester and I was also an ITA for Professor O’Donnell (although I worked few hours). I can say last semester has been the hardest semester (school work wise) I’ve had at Temple , so balancing out everything was a bit difficult. However, like some of my classmates, I made sure I stayed organized and set a schedule for myself. I had classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and worked Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm. I set my schedule so that I could come back to Temple from work and do my school work. In addition, my job allowed me to complete some of my school work if I didn’t have any work given to me. This was a good opportunity for me to finish any readings or essays so it helped a lot. Whenever someone has a difficult schedule, I believe setting time for yourself or having free time is really important in order to reduce stress. For me, this was Fridays, where I wouldn’t stress myself out because I’d have all my work done early in the week.

In the beginning, I had trouble balancing my work, school, and extracurricular activities. I had classes all day Tuesday/Thursday and then work Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 7 to 4. However, I found that planning ahead and making a schedule every single day helped me prioritize and get all of my work done. I wrote all of my upcoming tasks in my planner to make sure I did everything I was supposed to do. I also liked to keep a calendar in Outlook to record important meetings, deadlines, and school due dates as a backup to make sure I got everything done. Lastly, I designated Saturday’s to be my homework days where I spent most of my day trying to get ahead of my school work so that I wouldn’t be so stressed out during the week.

This is my second semester working as an intern and also being a full-time student. Honestly, I did not have a problem adjusting to the busy work/student schedule because I have experienced a very hectic schedule for the last 12 years. In middle and high school, I had a dream to be a professional dancer. Since I was very focused on my dance career, I danced over 20 hours a week, even with my school schedule. For the last three years, I also danced on a dance team on campus. The team took about 11 hours out of my week. Therefore, since I was accustomed to balancing school with my dance activities, I did not have a problem fitting my internship into my schedule. Even though dance is quiet different then working in the professional world, it taught me time management and responsibility, which I will use in my career.

My tips for managing work and school is to keep a planner or agenda. I use my planner to keep track of almost everything I do, including work, school, and personal activities. Without my planner, I would be lost because I always have too much going on. Also, it is definitely important to leave time to RELAX. I know this is difficult to do, but chronic stress is real and can cause many difficult health issues. So take a nap, color, or watch your favorite television show, anything to keep down your stress level!

Since the Fall 2015 semester, I have been working at my internship Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30AM to 5:00PM and have classes all day Tuesdays and Thursdays. This semester is especially interesting because all of my classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00AM to 4:50PM with no breaks in between. Add that with being Membership VP of a co-ed service fraternity, and life can be pretty hectic. I try to be as organized as possible when it comes to balancing school and work. I use a planner to write down when homework is due and other events I need to go to. I usually set aside time during the evenings to work on homework even if the homework isn’t due for a few days out. If I get super stressed out at any point, I usually just take a few breaths and relax for a little bit. I’m also fortunate enough to work somewhere where they understand that I’m a student first and allow me to take off from work to do school work if I need to. I also get a lot of support from family and friends. Even though my weekly schedule has gotten hectic, I was able to get used to it quickly.

My internship officially ended in January, but last semester I was balancing continuing to work with my internship, being a full time student, and being heavily involved in 2 SPOs. Other semesters I have also worked part time at the Dean’s Office which is what I am doing again this semester. The biggest key to finding the time for everything is planning ahead. I keep a fully up to date Google Calendar that I can access from my laptop and my phone, as well as a paper planner. At the beginning of each semester I write down every major commitment, assignment, paper, test, project, etc. This gives me the ability to plan long term. I can glance at my paper calendar and see which weeks look like they will be busiest, which weeks will be lighter, when I have major deliverables due, etc. I then use my Google
Calendar for daily planning. I put all my classes, work hours, appointments, meetings, etc in and then on especially busy days I block out time for different classes/assignments as well as necessary activities like eating meals. This way I have a sense of exactly how much time I have and what I can realistically accomplish in the time I have set aside. This way I can plan ahead for the busier times of the semester, and work ahead on assignments when I get the chance. Another crucial piece to balancing it all is still making time for myself and seeing my friends. If I don’t take that time I get too stressed and don’t function at my best. So I make sure to find time I will be able to see friends even if it is just grabbing a coffee together or swinging by their house for a bit. -
While it may be difficult to balance both school and work, it is certainly not impossible to be productive at both. The key is effective time management and prioritization. I’m not currently working this semester, but I can track back to last year when I was working part time as a Technology Analyst at Nationwide Insurance and had full time school. Time was very important to me, and it seemed as if I didn’t have a lot of it. Each week I updated my calendar (physical and on my phone) with all the meetings and activities I had at school. My work calendar was kept separate and had outlined my goals with the lists of tasks I wanted to complete each week. I also set reminders very frequently on my phone to remind me of any upcoming exams or assignments so I can start reviewing in advance. When you prioritize, you feel more organized and have the ability to adjust if something doesn’t go according to plan. So my tip would be to never wait for the last minute to do anything and always strive to have a plan in mind, a guiding tool for which you can work towards.

Surprisingly, this semester is probably one of the easiest, stress-free semesters I have had in the past four years. This is my 3rd semester juggling an internship with full time classes so i suppose experience with time management has helped. I must say my course load is extremely light compared to normal, with my most time-consuming class being Volleyball. I work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and have class Tuesday and Thursday. I try not to intertwine those days very much, and focus strictly on work three days a week and classes the other two days.

Balancing school work and my internship was a little challenging at first. I had two summer classes while working at AmeriHealth Caritas this summer. It is all about time management while being very organized. I had a set schedule of when to focus on certain assignments and when to focus on my work for my internship. Studying for tests was the most difficult. I couldn’t find time during the weekdays to study since of the commute. Most of my studying and homework was done on the weekends. Following a set schedule helps a lot with time management. Some tips that can help is make a planner with all of the work you have to do for the week. Develop time within the week to start the work but plan larger chunks of time in the weekend for the schoolwork. Lastly, don’t try to complete schoolwork at your internship, which looks really bad.

Since I did my internship during the summer I did not have any trouble with managing school work and my job. But throughout the summer I was the president of my fraternity and there was a lot of work I had to manage over the summer while interning. I had to call off days to go to Kentucky for a conference and as long as I did my job well and in a timely fashion I did not have any problems with this. My schedule was very set during my time interning since I was out in LA during my internship. With such a set routine for work and my fraternity it made it easy to get my work done for both my internship and fraternity.

It is certainly not easy to balance a multitude of commitments at once. As a part time intern and full time student, I am experiencing this firsthand. The most difficult part of every week is having limited free time. There are several clubs and organizations within Temple and outside of Temple that I am extensively involved in, which are very time-intensive in and of themselves. Having a full schedule of classes, plus working almost every day of the week, free time becomes very sparing very quickly. Therefore, in order to succeed, I must manage my free time efficiently and effectively. This means that, when I have homework to be done, I will complete my tasks as soon as possible. Then, when these tasks are complete, I use whatever time I have left to myself to relax and decompress. It is important to maintain a positive outlook throughout this process, as I’m aware I’m very fortunate to have these opportunities in front of me. Therefore, a strong work ethic and a positive, upbeat attitude are what help me perform most effectively in and out of school.

Like many others have said, I rely heavily on time management. This semester has been one of my busiest between working three days a week on top of five classes (including the co-op). Therefore, I rely heavily on managing my time and organizing set time slots in a day to complete different work. Breaking up my work in manageable chunks helps me complete focus on individual work and avoid being overwhelmed by the heavy workload. Also, I try to leave some extra time in the week in case some work took longer than I expected. By giving myself leeway time, I don’t stress or try to rush through school work ensuring I do not negatively effect the quality of it.

Last semester it was a lot more difficult to balance my internship with my school work because I had 5 classes. This semester it is much easier because ii only have 1 class that isn’t online and requires I go to a class. I purposely made my schedule easier this semester to fit in more hours after I went through the craziness in the fall I knew I had to plan better. One thing that can be difficult is trying to use public transit to get to and from work; it can add a lot of pressure to an internship if public transit can trip you up and cause you to be late. One thing that made more comfortable with balancing this in the spring was having my daily routes down and understanding that I could always call out if i was going to be late and my bosses would understand.

Right now, I am balancing school, my internship, and a job, and it is crazy. I have a different schedule every day of the week and my only day off from all 3 things is Sunday, which I usually spend at least some of the day doing homework. Besides all of this, I am also applying for jobs and going on interviews. Because my schedule is so tight, I have to take off, call out, or come late to either of my jobs to fit in anything extra. This semester so far, I have had to take off for interviews, career fairs, a funeral, and an ER visit. Luckily, both my job and internship are understanding and have allowed me to miss work for all of these things. On a normal week, with nothing extra going on, I can handle my schedule, but sometimes have trouble getting homework and projects all done. I have certain hours during each day to do these things, and sometimes I just don’t get them done when I want and have to stay up late or wake up early to do them. My biggest challenge right now is coordinating with groups at school to work on group projects. We have had to resort to virtual meetings a lot of times for scheduling conflicts. I keep it all together and keep it all going because I know I am not going to be juggling 3 things forever. I soon will graduate and have just one job to focus on. I also plan trips so I have something to look forward to. Over the winter break, I went to Australia and New Zealand and am currently planning to go to Europe in June.

In this semester, I am balancing my school, internship and SPO activities. It was hard for me in the beginning. It draw my crazy because I have six classes this semester. I go to work each Friday from 7:00 am. I have classes except Friday. I have to plan everything before each week start. To make sure what should I do next week. It is a very tight. I have to figure out what is the most important thing. The google calendar is really helpful for planing those stuffs. I definitely recommend that. But I still have trouble getting homework done well because I did not have enough time to do that. I also stay up late to finish my assignment. But, I found that it is hard for getting up early if I sleep too late. Right now, the most challenge is that I want to attend a case competition and conference. It means I have to spend extra time to do that such as weekend for this stuffs. I am still trying to handle this situation. I think I should go to gym sometimes to get some relax and store more energy.

How Airbnb’s Data Science Team Doubled The Ratio Of Female Employees Last Year
This article discusses how the Data Science team at AirBNB doubled the percentage of females on the team in the past year. I find this concept particularly fascinating because of our discussions about data scientists and equal opportunity in general. Men are by no means necessarily more qualified to perform these roles than women, and I appreciate that AirBNB took initiative to get more women on their team. I also appreciated the fact that they took even further initiative to get women outsiide of AirBNB to apply for data analytics roles. It seems that the company really cares about equality.

This is one of the most widespread hotel data breaches ever, getting customer credit card information. The article then discusses the financial impact on the year end financial statements and the revenue per room at each hotel. I found this interesting in that they related back to the financial statements to show the impact it will have there, even though they are still growing and expecting to build new hotels this year.

The article above highlights some credible and useful open data sources that new companies or even existing companies can utilize in their business strategies. The article states that these companies do not necessarily have to conduct their own research or acquire their own data because there are many sources out there that already provide the information they are looking for. This is cost effective and efficient. I found it interesting that Facebook, the New York Times, and Google can be utilized this way.

This article explains the recent news sensation regarding the connection between apple and the San Bernardino shooting. Just on Friday, Apple issued a message to the public saying that they would never compromise the relationship between apple and its consumers to provide the U.S government with unauthorized information. Since the alleged shooter changed the password of his apple id while it was in the possession of the U.S government, no information could be obtained. After apple provided the government with steps of how to crack the phone, and the government tried and failed, Apple and the U.S govt. are now in a major dispute over hacking the phone, because the government did not keep that information confidential. Whether the government will be able to hack the phone is questionable, but Apple will not comply unless legally forced to.

This article discusses the recent play of Providence point guard Kris Dunn, a player who I pray that the 76ers get in the upcoming draft in June. The article touches on topics of his assist to turnover ratio, a very important statistic for point guards as they are the primary ball distributors for each team. The article uses a scatter plot to compare Dunn’s play from this season and last season, as well as every other point guard on a college team. The scatter plot and background information allow the reader to understand that the amount of turnovers by Dunn has decreased significantly, a strong sign of development in the young player. The article further discusses how Dunn will continue to improve on his assist to turnover ratio as he ages and develops. -
The line chart in this article shows the dramatic decline in big work stoppages. This chart implies both positive and negative connotation. On one hand, many workers seem to be more satisfied with their jobs and don’t want to stop working anymore. On the other hand, it also shows the deteriorating relationship of union membership which was one thought to be a really strong relationship to help protect the rights of the workers.

I thought that this ranking system was very interesting after the All Star Weekend. I find that using data to rank athletes is easier to understand for a vast group of people due to the fact that you can’t argue with the numbers. Not only did they rank them by how they play, but how they play in important parts of the game, which is the most interesting to myself, seeing how your favorite player is doing when the game is on the line.

I found this article to be quite informative as well as important for all of the technologically-orientated individuals across the United States. This article discusses the “future” of technology and technological innovation. Most individuals across the U.S. are heavily pre-occupied and worried about the latest updated “news feeds” or strong WiFi connection, and it is a disgrace. Data is provided in this article that discusses how the majority of nation-wide technological advancement occurred within this past century, and mentions various different viewpoints on whether or not we, as a country, have reached a technological peak or not. I really liked how this article provides an insight on how future generations to come will handle technological advancement, or even technological regression.

The Zika virus has been a very talked about topic in frequent months. This article talks about why it’s so hard to prove that the Zika virus caused the outbreak of Microcephaly. Microcephaly is a congenital birth defect associated with incomplete brain development. This article also suggests that confirming if the two are really linked together can take months of research, if not years. Although the connection between the Zika virus and Microcephaly remains circumstantial, data is suggesting that the two are closely related.

The article describes how nearly all supply chain managers are aware of how important big data is and how it may impact their company positively, but out of the managers interviewed, only 17% actually are implementing big data currently. It is quite surprising to me to see resources unused and to understand that these managers are in some ways sitting on a gold mine! The link in the article is also useful, as it shows how SCM can use big data to increase their effectiveness as a business. This short article has quite a powerful method.

I have always wondered how many people use social medias nowadays. Then, I found out this article, which basically shows the statistics of people using social networking. I was surprised to figure out that between February 2005 and August 2006, the use of social networking sites among young adult internet users ages 18-29 jumped from 9% to 49%, which shows the rapid impact of social networking to human. This article helps me a lot in my understanding such as 71% of online adult using Facebook, women uses more cell phone than men or 46% of adult internet users post original photos or videos online that they themselves have created. I found those statistics really appealing and helpful. -

Also, it can help the clothing company to make their business plans on publishing seasonal clothes at different times in different cities. -
The article is talking about Apple’s attitude on sharing their customers’ information in the iPhones. They believe that the privacy should be protected but the FBI wanted the information to help them in a crime. I think it is interesting because it is a debatable issue on human rights. Many points of view can be occuring from a different perspective. And the conflict of interest will help correct errors to make the system more perfect.

I remember reading a U.S. census report stating how there won’t be a majority group by 2050. Given that statistics, you would expect more of a diverse film industry. This article was interesting to me because it focused on the fact that the data found on surveys may not be as reliable as people think. Many companies utilize surveys to check customer satisfaction, interests, etc., but that data could be skewed. I feel like it is important to realize that not all news sources are legitimate, and not all statistics are either. I found this article incredibly interesting, as it laid claim to the fact that children growing up in wealthy households will have not only a much higher employment rate throughout there lives (on average), but also a higher earnings rate. In addition the study had shown that children brought up in less wealthy families were less likely to attend college (especially men), and children who grew up in households with married parents tended to earn more money than those who grew up in separated families. This is a very interesting topic of debate because it shows that even in America, there may not be the same “land of opportunity” for all, and affluence can play a vital role in the level of success one is able to achieve. -
I stumbled upon the article “How You Will Die” and I could not help but stop and immediately open it. For the first time, I read about someone attempting to predict a person’s death based on age, race, and sex. Not only that, but they also showed specific causes of death and proceeded to show the percentages of how many people past that same way. I found it interesting to see the significant amount of change as people became older. It was obvious more health-related problems are associated with greater age.

Last semester I finished my minor by taking a class on the Biopharmaceutical industry and is something I find very interesting and controversial. This article talks about the issues dealing with making patient research data more widely available to the public as open data. The problem here is that not everyone agrees with this being open for the public. There is also a concern that other researches may use this data against the research and to try and prove it wrong. Deciding how access to this research should be given out is very crucial as it could help with the process of drug development but could also hinder the researches and patients within the studies.
The link above discusses the recent data breach experienced by Verizon. Recently, concepts such as these have become more and more interesting to me because I find it so fascinating that a few people with enough motivation and malicious intent have the ability to have such a negative impact on individuals and a corporation in general. For the last couple of weeks, the March Madness college basketball tournament has been in full swing. This year, there have been quite a few improbable upsets of some of college’s best teams. In the first round of the tournament, 2 seed Michigan State lost to 15 seed Middle Tennessee. With just a 5.5% chance to win the game, Middle Tennessee shocked the college basketball world by defeating one of the few teams that experts selected would win it all. This victory for Middle Tennessee ranked as the third biggest upset in March Madness since 1985. Although Michigan State had the second highest percentage of any team to win the championship, they were unfortunately knocked out in round one by a big surprise.

This article discusses data that FiveThirtyEight collected through the use of a google form. They asked readers to identify the states that the teams playing in the NCAA tournament were located in. Among schools whose names did not directly indicate the state that they reside in, Temple had the 4th highest percentage as 85% correctly answered that Temple is located in Pennsylvania. This article made me ponder the factors that could influence the results including marketing done by schools or prestige of the schools. Overall, I found this article interesting because I enjoy sports and it was nice to see the results for Temple.

For the most part, it shows the percentages of Trump’s followers and what state he has been able to “win.” There were a lot, however Trump is “deeply unpopular with general election voters.” In other words, winning a couple states is not exactly guaranteeing him a seat in the White House. He actually might end up doing the opposite, almost forcing people to vote for the Democratic party instead. Numbers do lie sometimes.

This article is unbelievable. It tells the story of the first woman to qualify for the Boston Marathon and how she had to break the rules to do so. Courageous and inspirational Bobbi Gibb began a trend for other women to do the same and run marathons alongside her, even when women were told they weren’t “psychologically” capable and highly discouraged. This is incredible to me personally because I ran my first marathon this year and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Apple’s next big problem: figuring out how the FBI hacked its iPhone
One of my favorite topics right now is the FBI vs Apple case. This is very interesting to me, because it deals with the division between government and the private sector. This article talks about how the FBI cracked the encryption on the Apple phone and now Apple is scrambling to figure out how they did it. A little bit more background the phone belonged to a terrorist and Apple was ordered to crack the encryption on the phone for the FBI, but Apple refused.

This article dives into Apple’s newest technological innovation “Night Mode.” Night Mode is a new feature of the iOS operating system that changes the color of the light emitted by iPads and iPhones as evening falls. This ultimately makes it easier for users to fall asleep at night; the light transitions into a duller, warmer light that results in users feeling more “sleepy.” As an iPhone user, I found this article very interesting. Most, if not all, iPhone users, even Apple product users for that matter, are glued to their device while on the verge of slumber. The fact that Apple created this feature is ingenious because users will now be more likely to fall asleep quicker, ultimately aiding in a better night’s sleep.

This article is interesting as I can relate it to the material that we learned in class about FitBit and how data from apps can help us improve our health. From this article, I realize that as humans, we don’t always open up our problems to our friends or family because of shame and other things. We are more honest to apps on our phone, ranting about something that is bothering you on twitter instead of talking to friends to let it out, for example. I see that this is a good thing as the article says that the data collected by the apps can be put to good use. However, I’m afraid that one day, these apps will take over our social life and our social skills will become worse. This is why sometimes I feel that we are more communicated with social apps and internet, but somehow our communicating skills are worsen and that isn’t a good thing. There are pros but there are also bad effects of this big data phenomenon. I hope we can make good use of the pros but also find ways to reduce the bad impacts that it have on us.

What I found interesting about this topic is the fact that the number of home runs, velocity after contact, and percentage of home runs hit has jumped to its highest point in five years, but has no explanation behind it. Although there are many theories behind the cause of a spike as such, several tests have been conducted, and each has come back inconclusive. Unable to find a definitive answer as to why there has been such a jump, and as it continues through spring training this year, we will have to see if the trend ends during the regular season or if it continues further this year.

They withdrew 17% of their stock and their CPO resigned after that.
