In five years…I am going to be looking for those Amazon drones. When I first saw Jeff Bezos drone delivery idea on “60 Minutes” I thought, “This guy doesn’t get told no much cause that is never going to happen.” Well, I’m wrong!! LOL. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) gave Amazon permission last week to start testing drones outdoors with…[Read more]

Kenyetta McDonald commented on the post, Reading Question: Disruption of Abundance, on the site 9 years, 8 months ago
Hi Will,
I like your alternative thinking here. In a strange way it seems when something becomes scarce, caused by society perceived abundance, innovation is created so scarcity can be disruptive. Looking at water and especially the announcement this week California reservoirs may be out of water in a year – will cause scientists to go beyond c…[Read more]

Hi Brandon,
I was thinking along these same lines. I commend Lackner for Techno Web 2.0, as it is a valiant effort to break through silos and get people engaged, talking, sharing ideas, possibly leading to innovation at Siemens. The self-defined networks that aligned technological and business units will aid in identifying leaders and projects…[Read more] -

I had the intention of becoming a teacher when I started college but after doing 3rd grade student teaching mid-sophomore year in the Philadelphia School District, I ran back to Temple and promptly changed my major. Those third-graders were tough. Talk about wanting to deck someone’s kid for having a smart mouth. I couldn’t take it. Also, the lac…[Read more]

Kenyetta McDonald commented on the post, Reading Question: Disruptive Change and Book Publishing, on the site 9 years, 8 months ago
According to Nielsen Books and Consumers (publishersweekly.com) for third quarter FY 2014, E-books accounted for 21% of unit book sales, paperback 42%, hardcover 25%. These numbers are evidence that traditional book publishing is not dead and agents and publishers are still highly relevant. Authors and artists need professional management as…[Read more]

Kenyetta McDonald commented on the post, Case Question: Amazon Web Services, on the site 9 years, 8 months ago
Hi Mike,
Your post is a good summation of reasons why Amazon services can be utilized over a company’s own infrastructure. While reading the case I kept thinking about the cost savings for a company and how the cloud diminishes reliance on servers. Also, the reliability of Amazon’s services lets a company focus on profitability measures like inc…[Read more] -

IT has made the management of global consumer brands better. Email, text, web conferencing enable communication and collaborative effort on effective strategies to bring consumer brands to market. Wyeth’s new global strategy requires unifying IT across all divisions. Formalizing systems, prioritizing approaches, having a reporting line through international client support, enables governance of IT and establishes effective internal communication. In order to go global, focusing on IT is the best start to the change initiative. F…[Read more]

I work at Temple Hospital in grants management and need to access Banner – the hospitals financial and accounting system. For convenience and easy accessibility to Banner, IT loads it as a separate tab into employee TU Portal accounts. There is also a research tab which grants access into bill and payment histories with options to run additional f…[Read more]

If you set Exhibit 5 – The Enterprise Goal Ranking Project Prioritization– back in front of VWoA leadership and you say “supply flow” is directly related to “customer loyalty” ranking 1, and “new vehicle value“ ranking 2, then they can see it needs priority and can carve funding from those projects.
Superior customer service translates to c…[Read more]

Hi Andrew and Dan,
I also like the potential for advocacy. Matulovic does have to work with his fellow executives and who knows – he may possibly need a favor in the future. By taking their concerns and expressing them to corporate he has built allies and gained their respect. The new priority management system with its limited IT funding m…[Read more]

Kenyetta McDonald commented on the post, Reading Question: IT Investments, on the site 9 years, 8 months ago
It seems a company’s approach to IT is determined by their type of business. If a company is retail oriented they would tend to under-invest in IT feeling it is more a support function. If a company is service oriented, IT is prominent in daily processes as technology is a direct mechanism of business operation.
I worked in retail at Ann T…[Read more]

Kenyetta McDonald commented on the post, Reading Question: Can you trust Yelp ratings?, on the site 9 years, 8 months ago
Given most of the sentiments expressed here – Yelp ratings are not a viable resource and just aren’t trusted. The Forbes article is a real eye opener on their practices with the revelation that Yelp manipulates content in an attempt to “extort advertising revenues” from the companies on their site. In other words, “You got to Pay to Play.” So…[Read more]

Paying the ransom is a big question for Sunnylake and has been debated in our posts. My answer is – I would not do it. Peter Stephenson, the last case commentator, said a potential reason why Sunnylake’s system kept crashing after IT fixes was because the malware hackers installed relayed messages back. So the hackers knew of the potential fixes a…[Read more]

Hi All, I’m joining in the chorus that Will’s information that the law requires report if 500 patient records are breeched to the media, is great info. I actually wonder if this should be lowered to 250, maybe a 100. If the requirement was lowered, maybe hospitals become more vigilant in assessing their system on a daily bases for flaws and pot…[Read more]

Here are two additional considerations for improving Airbnb’s business model.
1.Charge potential damage fee to renters. I used to be a front desk clerk at Sheraton. Prior to check-in, on the day of your arrival or the night before, the hotel controller runs your credit card for pre-approval. A “hold” is put on the card for the room rate, tax,…[Read more]

I work in a grants management office, needless to say it is fairly quiet. The background noise in the office is phone conversations and tapping keys. Pretty mundane.
