I want to control my cheap coffee maker with my Raspberry Pi (eventually, an Arduino uno) but I haven’t gotten around to getting the safety screw driver I need to open it up.
I think the walled garden in consumer IoT devices is really discouraging. Most things don’t work together, so you need a different app for everything. Apple’s Homekit is…[Read more]

In general, it is no secret that enterprise software is far behind consumer software in terms of stability and ease of use. Take Blackboard for example, it is very good — probably the best online learning tool I’ve used, but it still leaves much to be desired. Temple pays a significant amount for the license but it isn’t mobile responsive. The…[Read more]

Data from a focus group indicates that students would like to be able to find GenEds that match their interests but doesn’t give any indication of what that means. Thusly, we’ve decided to mimic the two solutions used consistently online wether you’re shopping or browsing Google News: categorization and keyword search/document indexing (please…[Read more]

Have you heard of R25? It’s how Temple schedules classrooms and events. Might be useful in thinking of how your app would work.
The web interface at least used to be open to me as a student worker but I can’t remember the URL. There’s also a REST API for it if you could make any use of that.

It should also be noted that this project will save the department approximately $10,000 anually as it’s also intended to replace the print version of the course booklet.

I work as a software developer at the GenEd department and will be working concurrently at Computer Services shortly.
At GenEd I get to do some of everything. I manage the server, analytics, WordPress and do custom design and development. This semester I’ll be making a tool for students and advisors intended to replace the GenEd course booklet a…[Read more] -
