The most important takeaway from the course, in my opinion, is the development of the ability to thoroughly and objectively analyze and visualize data. Using tools like Tableau and Excel, I have valuable skills which will serve me well both in my academic and professional career, and I have also enhanced my critical thinking skills. Analyzing data…[Read more]

I use blackboard every day to check my grades and assignments. The rows would be individual classes I take or organizations I am a part of, and columns would include information about each of these. Such as grade, professor, and assignments for classes, and information about organizations such as membership, meeting times, and which major each…[Read more]

The article I read from the Journal of Accountancy discussed how comfortable Americans feel about their financial situation since the financial crisis. The Personal Financial Satisfaction Index measures how Americans feel financially. Third quarter results released on October 27th showed an index score of 19.0, the highest rating since the first…[Read more]

A KPI that I use on a daily basis is how many hours I study per day. It is specific as it only pertains to schoolwork. It is measurable as I can easily look at the clock and see how many hours I have studied for. It is achievable because I can spend more or less time on studying. It is relevant as how much I study has a direct impact on my grades.…[Read more]

I have never made any of the mistakes listed in the article, but I think the most important one to avoid is copying formulas with relative coordinates. From my experience in using excel for accounting work, it is critical to make the proper formula copies into cells to ensure to correct value is reached. Even small errors can have huge…[Read more]

The most important takeaway from our discussion, in my opinion, is the prevalence of data bias and the importance of being aware of it. We covered an example of bias on review websites such as Yelp, with certain accounts leaving 1 star reviews as anomalies among the rest. I use review websites (specifically Yelp) quite often in order to judge…[Read more]

A piece of conventional wisdom I have heard is “do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.” While I think it is important to find work that you can enjoy, or at least tolerate, I believe work is work and it will be no matter what your profession is. To test whether this is true, I would survey a random group of people, asking…[Read more]
