The biggest takeaway for myself would be just the power of data and the need for all corporations to integrate data analytics into their business is some capacity. Whether it be finding out more about a specific customer segment or doing market research, data can only help in the decision making process. I would tell a future MIS5101 student…[Read more]

One key point I would like to remember is whenever you are making a business decision always see how that decision is going to affect the entire operations and functionability of the company. As easy way to look at this is to map out value propositions, financials, and customer segments. Business’s function as an entire system and to ignore a…[Read more]

Mark J. Ramacciotti commented on the post, What is Knowledge Management?, on the site 9 years, 11 months ago
Knowledge management can be related to writing a sentence for a five year old. You first need to learn small details such as letters of the alphabet. You then need to connect these smaller details together to form words with these letters. Then, you need to put these bigger chunks of information together to form a solid structure, or words to…[Read more]

I do believe that manufacturing with shift from a centralized structure but not as rapidly as people may expect. Crowdsourcing and new technologies are becoming increasing more popular but I still think this needs time to develop in order to resonate with a variety of different high level executives who are ultimately making the final decision.…[Read more]

I thought the presentations were extremely insightful and could be directly applied to the field in which we are interested in. I thought the biggest takeaway from my end was the ability for them to translate data in an easy to understand manner. They told us about the data set that they were using and the ways they could graphically depict the…[Read more]

I think that most businesses are taking proper precautions to prevent fraud, but with the advancement in technology over the past decade anything is attainable with the right level of ‘hacking skill.’ This relates to last weeks post about stealing ATM information in the sense that there are so many ways criminals can get people’s private…[Read more]

Mark J. Ramacciotti commented on the post, Discussion Question: Fraud and Safety, on the site 10 years ago
I think that this answer can go both ways in that technology definitely makes it easier to keep private information safer, but if also allows thieves an ability to capture more information. I think however with the new advances in technology it is easier to commit fraud because there are so many different ways someone can get your personal…[Read more]

If I were in charge of data.gov I would advertise the publicity of data being shown around the internet. I would really try and drive traffic towards the data.gov website and encourage people to use this data freely. Once people arrive at the site data.gov should provide tutorials and walk-thrus for people who would like to learn more about how…[Read more]

Mark J. Ramacciotti commented on the post, Discussion Question: Agents, Publishers, and Self-Publishing Options, on the site 10 years ago
I do not believe that the the age of agents and publishers are dead, but I do definitely see a trend not only in this little blurb, but from other readings on various articles recently in the news. Self-publishing is becoming more common now more than ever, and I think there are some advantages that outweigh some of the pros in signing with…[Read more]

Continuing off of our discussion last week on Intermountain Health Care, it is a very distinct relationship that exists between process and data. Intermountain’s original process of gathering and organizing data was unstructured and very time-consuming. They re-vamped the entire data process to reduce redundancy and while cutting back on…[Read more]

At one of my jobs we survey fans of sports teams that attend games each week. For example, we would collect data from the Philadelphia Eagles on their ticket buyers ahead of time and send out surveys to a select group of fans that attended the game each home week. We would segment these surveys to send them out to season-ticket holders,…[Read more]
