What are the initial costs of Alma? I’m not sure I could say the benefits do or do not out-weigh the costs at this point. I don’t think it should be mandatory for public schools to upgrade their systems. This software doesn’t exactly make sense to me. Wouldn’t this only work for students who stay at a school district that uses this system from…[Read more]

I think that the Switch is a sustaining innovation rather than any sort of disruptive. At least when it comes to gaming in general. When the Wii first came out, I would say it could have been disruptive, but now it is just adding on new features. When it comes to mobility, consoles have more mobility than PC gaming in general but less-so than…[Read more]

I think the problem with the smart watches, specifically the Apple watch, is exactly what you said. It’s stuck in between 2 segments while not excelling in either. If we consider it a watch, Apple loyalists are a condition to their target market. The reason being, like Leeya mentioned, you’d need an Apple phone to use it. So now their target…[Read more]

Healthcare is often associated with risk and insurance. I think that what you mentioned above, self-monitoring smart devices, could potentially lead to some disruptive changes within insurance for healthcare. Consumers should realize that if something is digitally monitoring them, that’s potential data for companies. This could lead to changes in…[Read more]

Businesses people and technologists often use lingo that can often be misused. Disruptive technologies is a prime example. Whenever a new product enters the market and causes a commotion, people jump on the train […]

I believe this flat organizational structure is ideal for streamlining a business. The only problem is what you’ve mentioned, decisions are made quickly but everyone must know what they’re doing. Each individual has a much greater responsibility because their decisions make a huge impact. Valve has approximately 360 employees which likely…[Read more]

I agree with the other comments, the cable industry has already been penetrated by disruptive innovation. A majority of people under 48 already do not own a cable subscription. The way to survive these changes seem to be either partnering up with these services or providing one themselves. I don’t think there’s a question of whether these…[Read more]

Open Source Software has been around since the 1950’s and software companies have still survived. To the individual consumer, OpenSource is probably preferable but there will always be a customer base for commercial software. Also, companies may choose to purchase from a vendor because of a partnership, history of good performance, etc. Especially…[Read more]

I believe that the fear of hackers getting private data from cloud solutions is pointless. The risk is still there whether it’s in-house or a 3rd party, it’s just the fact that your company has less control over security measures. Though, a vendor with poor security, a history of being hacked, etc. will lose business. Seeing how it is one of the…[Read more]

The CIO of the Federal Communications Commission, David Bray, is a supporter of cloud computing and believes that government should use it wherever possible. The FCC has begun the movement by migrating a large […]

As many of us know, failed projects are common and are costly. But, how costly are failed ERP projects? ERP projects have a wide range of cost to implement depending on many factors such as customization, size […]

We would like to work in coordination with the GenEd department to develop a new way to search for GenEd courses based on personal interests.
Banner only allows you to search by department and/or GenEd area (ex. Human Behavior or Science and Technology). After that, you have to scroll through endless sections…[Read more]

It should also be noted that this project will save the department approximately $10,000 anually as it’s also intended to replace the print version of the course booklet.

Overall, this sounds good. Some questions: How will you assess what is effective in solving the problem vs. less effective strategies? How will you measure success?

Considering how risky his ideas were, it’s hard to imagine that people still decided to invest in him. Luckily they did and it’s insane how he went from almost being broke to being a billionaire. Not to sound rude but I wonder if he has some kind of mental disorder. I feel as though most savants have some sort of disorder but causes them to excel…[Read more]
I disagree with this article saying Uber is not a disruptive innovation. Uber began disrupting the taxi industry on the low end by offering ride services at discounted rates compared to taxi companies. As Uber became more established, it’s innovative features and crowdsourced drivers allowed Uber to reach new markets in more rural areas where tai companies are not established. I would argue that Uber is both a low-end and new market disruption. It is possible for companies to be innovations and still disruptive to existing markets.
