I use Amazon all the time to purchase everything from textbooks to shoes. A column could be an item, say a pair of shoes. There could even be multiple columns for each style–like a separate column for the same brand for sandals and one for sneakers. The rows could include styles, different vendors selling the same product, price, shipping options…[Read more]

I have forgotten the data type before, and nothing happened-no data would sum! It was very annoying and it took a great deal of time to figure out. I would argue, however, that keeping a clean backup at all times is the most important thing, because if you don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to this issue, at least you can start at the…[Read more]

As an Accounting Major, I can see big data influencing Auditing the most. The ability to hide bad data could be affected by the right auditor who has an emphasis on data analysis. This may make it more difficult for companies to be unethical. Tax accounting may not be as affected, although it would be helpful to see who is lying in their tax…[Read more]

I read an article entitled “The Changing Nature of Accounting” by Mike Galarza. The article addresses the impact that Big Data is having on the Accounting field. The author explains how Accountants once needed to be experts at all aspects of the field; however, Big Data, the internet, and the increasingly complicated tax code is changing the way…[Read more]

One piece of conventional wisdom I have heard over and over in the business world is “You have to pay your dues to get ahead.” This is sometimes true; however, sometimes luck, a great interview, or knowing the right person can get you your dream job. In fact, one could argue that a long term of service doesn’t necessarily preclude a raise or…[Read more]
