MIS 0855: Data Science – Student Academic Performance in Relation to Parental Background
Parents have a large effect on their child’s lives. We wanted to see just how much. Particularly, we wanted to investigate how a parent’s education and economic status affects their child’s academic performance in school. By looking at data sampled from public schools, we are able to gain insights into a student’s home life and related it to their performance in school. We performed analysis using Tabeau and created visualization to compare relationships. At the end, we concluded that there was a positive relationship between student exam scores and additional degrees earned by parents. Similarly, students who had parents with higher incomes typically performed better on exams. After preforming our research, we organized our findings into a slide show and info-graphic using Piktochart.
