In this project, we had the opportunity to research various types of “hot-topics” in data analytics. I chose to research Deep-Learning. It was a very interesting subject and it made me realize all that what we were learning in Data Analytics could be applied to real life. My favorite part about the project was learning that companies like Facebook were at the greatest advantage because they had thee greatest amount of data to chose from.
In 3506, we’ve spent time working with a client, gathering requirements and ultimately providing a solution to the client that we hope meets their needs. Delivering the solution contains two parts – the Justinmind prototype and the accompanying documentation. For this assignment I focused on a process at a former job that wasn’t as efficient as possible. I took that process and broke it down step by step Then created a prototype in Justinmind that will hopefully improve the efficiency of that process. My results were a two screen prototype that consisted of the employee logging in and tracking their weekly hours, instead of inefficiency doing it on paper and handing it in to the manager. I learned from this project that processes will infinitely continue to change and we must keep up.

Big data has become an integral part of our society and businesses across the globe are scrambling to find ways to organize and understand the vast quantity of information that is being produced day-to-day. What is big data exactly? According to Lisa Arthur, who wrote “What is Big Data?” the definition of big data is “a collection of data from traditional and digital sources inside and outside your company that represents a source for ongoing discovery and analysis.” Big data is important because we can analyze, interpret, and apply it in the real world to make life easier. In MIS 2502: Data Analytics, we learned about using data to predict the future. Using R, a programming language for statistical computation, we generated a decision tree to predict whether a person would default based on data such as their income and debt. Tesla is the epitome of a company that uses big data. According to the article, “How Big Data Drives Tesla” by Albert Ahdoot, Ahdoot states in October 2014, Tesla offered a “technology package” for an additional price that includes cameras and sensors that could predict a car accident before it happened. For Tesla to predict a car accident they would need to collect data first. They do this through the means of multiple sensors. Tesla is a unique company because they use their data to respond to issues. For example, in 2014 Tesla faced a problem where their cars are overheating, so instead of the drivers going to a mechanic or bringing the car back to the dealership, all Tesla had to do was send an Over the Air (OTA) update that automatically reduced the power fluctuations. Tesla also collects data through their autopilot software to map the road more accurately. The data they collect can show where cars have slowed down or avoided obstacles that are not conspicuous to the cameras of another Tesla car. Without big data, technology as we know it today would be very limited.

The goal of this project is to show our business analyst skills by creating a scope, use case, data schema, and a prototype based on our previous experience, and to put the skills we learned this semester into practice with a real-life and personal scenario.
In this project, I built a prototype based on my previous work experience as an SAT tutor. The prototype improves the current contact system to include a customizable request for counseling that saves time. The request for counseling cuts down actual time of each counseling session by having the student fill in a form that briefly describes his/her current academic situation. This is the first time I reflected on my work experience in the perspective of a business analyst and try my hands at improving an existing system. The main thing I learned is how to collect pieces of information around me and turn them into a project direction. This project has been very helpful.
In this project, I was tasked with finding a process in my everyday or work life that could be made more efficient. I had to create a scope document for the prototype, a data schema of what data will be collected, a use case of the prototype, and the prototype itself. I used my employer’s process of making bank drops and constructed a prototype to increase both efficiency and security of the process. My prototype allowed a user to login and submit the information for a bank drop into a database and table.
Write-up on a data-related topic
There is data being constantly generated in today’s age when we communicate our friends on Facebook or use Amazon to shop for something. There is always a digital footprint being generated on every digital transaction we make, which is almost everything today. All this data is too complex to simplify and too large to store in one format. Therefore, Big data was invented. Big Data can be described as extremely large data sets that may be analyzed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, especially when the data formats are in images and voice form. Today, most of the information we receive is in unstructured form, meaning they can’t be put on an excel sheet. This information is in the form of images and videos on Facebook, recorded telephone calls and email. Therefore, Big Data often uses analytics involving A.I (Artificial Intelligence) and Machine Learning. Big Data has solved problems over the years using these techniques such as curing diseases and prevent the spread of cancer by using data-driven medicine, which analyses vast number of medical records and images to present early detection of the disease and develop new medicines, prevent crime by using data-driven strategies based on their own intelligence and public data sets in order to deploy resources more efficiently, and explore distant planets by using million so of data points and using models of eventuality, in order to find the perfect landing zones for the Rover. Big Data is presently being used through an “as-a-service” platform. Which means that the organization rents the server space, software systems, and processing power from outside providers. All the work is being done on the service provider’s servers. This increases flexibility and makes the data-driven model more efficient by reducing the needs of servers, premises and technical labor. Although the Invention seems to be beneficial, there have been concerns regarding the data privacy and data security. In terms of privacy, we would be sharing personal information about ourselves and daily we have been asked to limit the amount of information accessible to Big data powered apps. Other problems, that the invention faces is security. The data is stored on servers all over the world, which raises the question of how the companies keep the data safe especially since the recent Facebook scandal has put into question the very existence of Big-Data.
