As far as the 3D printer goes, I just watched a National Geographic special concerning the Titanic, and how they were able to “drain the ocean” so they could make a 3D model of what the ship looks like now. Although this isn’t technically business related, I can see how 3D printing can be beneficial as far as production and lower costs.

I guess the time to consider outsourcing IT would be when the company is getting larger, and feels comfortable handing over that type of control, and plus the $ amount would be a consideration. Definitely a risk would be some sort of data breach..

This is on somewhat of a small scale, but thinking back to when my company was remodeling one of their stores- first off, a representative from corporate comes in to take an accurate measurement of the entire square footage of the store. This is most important, because proper sized materials need to be ordered, and many times these items are…[Read more]

Ultimate customer experience probably means a few different things to different people. In my own experience (as both a customer and on the “other side” of the counter, I think ultimate experience is when you go above and beyond- not just the norm. We used to call it “Wow”-ing the customer- each store had a poster in the back that had suggestions…[Read more]

I think that with the recent events of the natural disasters, etc. that are happening that it is a very real situation that companies decide to relocate. They have to look at the economic impact of the long haul- especially if it is flooding/earthquakes that keep happening over and over again- not very cost-effective to stay put.

Customer service is very near to my heart, having been in it for over twenty years. We were always taught that when you’re unhappy with a company, you tell EVERYONE about your bad experience- and I’ve been on both sides of that. It takes a LOT these days for a business to “win” over a customer and make them a customer for “life”. It translates…[Read more]

Unfortunately, I think ethnicity does play a role; it really shouldn’t, because it should just be about “PEOPLE” collaborating on projects, keeping each other in the loop to make a smoother work flow. Although there is a tendency for people to connect more so with “like” people, they need to keep mindful of the fact that everyone is in it to work…[Read more]

In response to #3, I believe social media presence is definitely necessary for companies in today’s world, as a large amount of the population aren’t even looking at print ads or TV. It is the way of the “immediate future” – meaning, who knows what will take its place 10-20 years from now! It is important for companies to get their message to the…[Read more]

I understand that social media is important for companies, esp in marketing, but I do not agree with their looking at current employees’ FB pages- while I think that people should be responsible and not post potentially damaging photos/statements on their page, I don’t like the idea of “big brother” watching/monitoring…
This is a great article because it focuses on the cultural shift and the business side – not just the IT. It also discusses how IT is not just a service center but a partner!

To answer question one I definitely think that enterprise information system is sustainable in the future. It allows for a better flow of information in the organization and for easy access to said information by all. This is beneficial as it means that the organization does not need to have data in different areas but can centralize which could cut costs. Also aside from this anyone in the organization can access the information from any given location which means that one does not need to be in a certain place to see what is happening or contribute to projects and such which allows productivity to continue with ease.
