Technology in sports has been around for a while. From tracking hockey pucks to the strike zone to now Noah Shooting System and Noahlytics. I think it’s definitely here to stay because you want to maximize the uniqueness of your players. You can use analytics to see which player would best fit your team. That’s how Billy Bean took a…[Read more]

Brendon Lee commented on the post, AirPods 2 are available but disappointing, on the site 5 years, 8 months ago
I think it definitely is disappointing as it has been over 2 years since the release of the AirPods and Apple has only given us a slightly better mode – basically an ‘S’ model. I do think that Apple has something bigger and better for the AirPods but maybe this release was to just get consumers who initially had doubt about the original Airpods.…[Read more]

From a research done at the Universty of Washington, an application on smartphones can turn the phone in to a short-range active sonar system to identify acute opioid toxicity. The application would be looking […]

Brendon Lee commented on the post, We can finally use cash in stores?, on the site 5 years, 9 months ago
I think it’s super ironic that stores are starting to NOT accept cash. I’ve only ever heard of stores accepting CASH ONLY. I don’t agree that having a bank account is a luxury however. There are plenty of free banks. There are also a lot of credit cards with low to none fees as well. I don’t think this is a huge issue at all and it is not a…[Read more]

Wow! I think this is definitely an interesting use of autonomous vehicles and definitely something I would put stock in. I think this is a good idea because it addresses the issue of “Where would the autonomous vehicles be parked?” There definitely isn’t enough parking spots and one proposed solution was to have the vehicles circle around…[Read more]

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality are playing exciting new roles in the financial technology industry – for both businesses and consumers. For example, Salesforce is building on its sales by creating a data […]

This is so interesting! I honestly would have thought that finances would be the last place to implement a technology such as AR. It is definitely a great step for them, and I think if done well it could be very successful. People often comment and complain that banking or interacting with banks is a tedious and time consuming process. There is so much red tape and personally I put off going for as long as I can. If AR were used to simplify and speed up this process, I think it would be a great advancement and really help this industry.

Brendon Lee commented on the post, "Flexing" in Apple AirPods, on the site 5 years, 10 months ago
I own wired earbuds, over the ear headphones, and “wireless” headphones. The Apple Airpods blow all of them out of the water. And it’s not just a “flex” piece. Functionality – they perform better than all of my other earphones/headphones. Do they provide me studio room music quality? No. But the things the AirPods do well are that: truely…[Read more]

Restaurants are leaning towards kiosks to help improve their business. It originally started with improving rush hour lines and speed & efficiency. Now, restaurants are looking at kiosks to improve customer e […]

I think restaurants integrating kiosks have improved customer experience. Personally, I really like using kiosks at places like Wawa to give in my order and being able to see a list of all the ingredients that go into a food item. That way I am able to see what exactly is in the item and I can choose to keep, remove, or add in another ingredient. Something interesting that restaurants that have rewards programs and kiosks do (like Panera) is remember your previous orders and make recommendations based on your preferences and give you coupons for products you typically buy.
I agree with your thought that adding kiosks in eateries where watching your food being prepared is part of the experience is not a viable option. However, I do think more and more restaurants will add kiosks to better customer experience.

Kiosks definitely bring with them a level of simplicity and convenience in today’s modern restaurant. The access to to data allows for even greater insights to customer buying habits allowing for an even more tailored experience. One issue however that has cropped up because of the kiosk is cashless restaurants or stores. Because the store operates off a kiosks based checkout the store no longer accepts cash and will only take card payments or digital payments like apple wallet or Samsung pay. This is an issue because cities like Philadelphia, which is the first, are beginning to ban cashless restaurants and stores. Philadelphia is mandating all stores must still accept cash and cannot go cashless. It seems kiosk based checkout stores are at most risk with this policy change. Could you see laws like this disrupting the growth of kiosks in stores?

The issues of opioid overdoses within the United States is an issue that needs an immediate solution. I like the creativity of this solution using microphones and speakers built into an existing device to detect sonar waves. A major concern would be HIPPA violations, which almost seem impossible to get by. Another concern would be if the microphone and speaker would be on constantly? If that was so, this can turn away people due to sheer nature of privacy and unfamiliarity. I wonder if this can be used in hospital settings sometime in the future to make the process of customer interaction more efficient.
I find it fascinating how with every new development of phone technology we seem to find ways to use it to enter markets and revolutionize industries that we would have never expected. The iPhone helping with opioid addiction feeds into that phenomenon. I am excited to see how this will flesh out and how it will lead to more applications of this type of technology. I also agree that it would be a low-end market disruptor, and I am optimistic about the research done with this application
