@tud16182 I noticed you are undeclared but have an interest in MIS. As an MIS major I agree with you and think that AIS is a great way to learn about the various opportunities within MIS.

I would have to say that the biggest takeaway from MIS0855 is the importance of data and its applications. For instance, raw data is useless unless you organize it, clean it, and make use of it. I learned how to display data in this class from using softwares such as Tableau and Excel.

One data driven service I use regularly is Amazon. This online retail site keeps record of every purchase I make. In a spread sheet the item I purchase would be in rows and the columns would include price, order number, seller information, and my method of payment.

An example of a KPI that I use everyday is my Wells Fargo Banking App. It is measurable because I can check the amount of money I have in my account. And I can also monitor how much I spend based off of my recent purchases. This is an important KPI to manage because the amount I can spend is limited to how much I have.

I believe that Number 4 is the most important to avoid. Sort a spreadsheet but, not include all of the columns because data will not be accurate if not everything is included. You may come to a conclusion that is incorrect because you corrupted your data.

An article I found interesting was Kobe steel company lying about the data of the quality of the parts they have been selling. They did this so that the consumers believe that the steel quality they are purchasing is high quality. Although this helps sales short term it actually…[Read more] -

From Hoven’s article, I believe that comparing data visualization is the most important of the eight core principles because it is easier to compare data when they are right next to each other. Personally I believe that numbers and data have no value until you display them with purpose. With comparison it is easy to show the audience your main p…[Read more]
