A data-driven site I use a lot is amazon.com. I have a prime membership and buy tons of different things on the site. I would make an excel spreadsheet and in the first column of each row I would type in the product name. Then for the following columns I would title them price, name of seller, prime or not, number of stars I would give, date I…[Read more]

The article I chose displays average Parental Time Use. There are two different charts, one for mothers and one for fathers. The charts divide time into three sections; Childcare, Housework, and Paid Work. I found this particularly interesting because as I get older…[Read more] -

An example of a KPI that students pay close attention to is our GPA. It is specific, measurable, and achievable for example, all graded school work is reflected in your GPA and it measures how well you are doing in school while also helps you decide if you need to study more/work harder. Additionally, it is extremely relevant because it is…[Read more]

I haven’t done too many assignments through excel, however, last semester when I was taking the Business Excel course I made a horrible error. I did not back up my files when I was working and in the middle of an assignment my computer suddenly died and did not autosave my work. I was so close to finishing the assignment and I had to start all…[Read more]

I believe the most important principle is to “Be Skeptical”. After all of our readings on bad data, the filter bubble, and pros/cons of open data, I have a new understanding as to why it is so important to ask questions and be skeptical. It is important to analyze how the research was done and what it really covers. In class, we often talk about…[Read more]

I found an article with data visualization detailing US health data. I then narrowed my search to only show mental and substance use disorders across the country. I am a Human Resource Management major and I find mental health and the growing awareness and acceptance of mental health as a significant…[Read more] -

A common piece of conventional wisdom is that people who drive without distractions such as the radio and having lots of passengers are safer and get into fewer accidents. In order to test this idea, I would look at public accident records provided by the DMV to see how many accidents occurred in a year and how many of those occurred when the…[Read more]

There was one mistakes I have made a couple times last semester. I’m in a sorority and we do a lot of excel spreadsheets to get/share information within the chapter. Number 6, “Miss the Data Type” has been a problem a few times when I have created an excel spread sheet about upcoming dates and deadlines. In the A column I listed the dates like 9/7…[Read more]

I found our discussion last week particularly interesting because biased data is everywhere and affects everyone. I think it is shocking that there are people who don’t even realize biased data exists or is a problem. Personally, I buy a lot of things off Amazon and for me, reading the reviews are essential. However, there are keywords and traits…[Read more]

I am a Business Undecided Major in Fox, so the topics I found most interesting were the ones that generally recorded jobs and availability. I found data analysis on Employment change in the EU, which is particularly interesting to me because I lived in Europe for a year and studied international business while I was abroad. The data showed a large…[Read more]

For new drivers, the rule of thumb is often to avoid all unnecessary distractions. This could be having other passengers in the car, eating or drinking, listening to music, reading a map, etc. However, I find that listening to music helps me stay alert and focused. If I were testing this theory I would collect data from drivers under the age of 20…[Read more]
