In my opinion, “the faker” is the worst type of auditor. The rationale behind me choosing this type of auditor as the worst type is because they no longer care to learn or get the right answer and instead try to avoid the problem. They will be loosing credibility as they try to bluff, fake and use jargon to try to get by. The auditor will sti…[Read more]

I believe that both the depth of knowledge and its impact on the enterprise are very important as they kind of go hand in hand. You cannot really asses the impact of technology on an enterprise if you do not know about the background of that technology. For an organization though I do feel like the impact of that technology on the enterprise is…[Read more]

I agree that “The Lazy” auditor is a bad one since it appears they lost their drive and only want to work on low risk projects and not any highly important ones. However in my opinion the “faker” is worse because they are causing project to lose credibility whereas the lazy auditor is doing their work but just not on high risk projects.

I forgot to add that the faker can’t even be bothered to learn about the process and projects whereas the lazy auditor knows about them.

The Millennial generation’s biggest soft skill that will contribute to the audit and assurance profession, I believe, is the exposure to technology from a young age. Having this long relationship with technology makes it easier for us to learn and adapt the inner workings of new and old technology. Millennials also have vast problem solving s…[Read more]

3. A person’s character is very crucial in the audit industry. How would you build your reputation and maintain a good ethical character in this industry?
I would build my reputation by being a great listener and not showing biased towards anyone. I would then conduct audits with integrity even when tempted with allowing items to slip through t…[Read more]

1.How much of automated controls should be desired? Is it beneficial to consider controls at the initial design phase or controls are introduced as and when needs arise?
An organization will probably want to implement majority of the automated controls offered as they will be ‘blanket’ controls that will cover basic issues that most organizations…[Read more] -

Sean, I completely agree with your response to characteristics of an auditor. Integrity is definitely one of the most important if not the most important quality an auditor can have. Without integrity and unbiased an auditor is nothing as they will never truly see a process for what it actually is.
I also strongly agree with your statement /…[Read more] -

Said, this is exactly what I was going to state. The implementation of such a large international organization would take a lot of careful planning and time for implementation. This would be done in a very slow roll out testing it in certain groups as their ERP system would be very complex. They would want to ensure that everything is able to be…[Read more]

Hi Paul,
This is very true. I agree that SAP is well established and doesn’t need to change its GUI as most customers are familiar with it … but if a different company adapted their interface to be more familiar it might give SAP a run for their money therefore SAP might want to make some changes themselves to make themselves competitive. -

This is a good and very well crafted answer. Security is a very good example to discuss the risk of compliance controls. Although sometimes I feel like it may be hard for certain organizations to correctly assess and monetize the situation therefore they may not correctly evaluate what costs more the implementation of controls or lack of controls.…[Read more]
