Describe your experience? Anybody staying on part-time? Anybody have a lead on a permanent job?
-
My experience was fantastic overall. I got exposed to different types of work tasks for my Technology Risk Advisory team. I talked to many people in other Advisory groups within Deloitte. I experienced the more stressful parts of the job and saw that it was bearable. I made new friends that I want to keep for a long time. I found the environment of professional services firms to be a great fit for me. I’m happy that I had the chance to intern this summer with Deloitte. I wrote a more detailed post about my experience on my MIS site http://community.mis.temple.edu/ngocpham/

I had an amazing experience. I learned a lot of useful skills and met great people throughout the company. Being my first corporate role in a company I got to experience the full experience by assisting several different departments. I started off in the service management office doing excel spreadsheets and footprints work. Then I transisted into the IT asset management department. I took apart over 200 desktop and labtop computer hard drives. After that I am currently finishing off my experience assisting the Desktop Engineering team by backing up and replacing over 30 employee desktops for workers who rely on this for their everyday work.

My experience at SAP was amazing. I learned so many tangible skills and intangible skills. I really like the SAP corporate culture and am trying to land a full time offer. One of the best part about working at SAP that I did not mention before is their food! They have many dinning options with amazing chefs that cook delicious food. Taco Tuesdays are my fave! I was able to get a full time offer for for the summer about a different project. Planning on having it turned into a full time offer!
I really like the part about gathering requirements proposing design solutions and actually building the site. looking forward to do something along those lines for full time! -
My time at goPuff was unforgettable. Being in a disruptive company, I have a chance to see such a historical moment to see the company grow so quick, make friends, know about people at goPuff. Also, the co-founders inspired me with their story and background. They are only a few years older than me and now own a multi-million dollar company! I was lucky enough to be here for the annual offsite to hear about goPuff visions, stories, and culture. It was the moment that I decided to apply after graduation.
-
I loved my QVC internship! I am not quite done as I still have about a week to go but thinking about leaving here is already bittersweet. I have really learned a lot of lessons during my time and cannot thank the QVC team enough for being so welcoming & caring. My team has been wonderful and they always have treated me as I am a part of them! I would love to take the opportunity of continuing my journey at QVC but unfortunately I won’t be able to commute to West Chester after the school year starts. Temple is quite far away and traffic tends to make it more difficult to get to the office. Nevertheless, I am excited for what my next internship holds! I am definitely considering applying to QVC for the next summer and maybe staying on for a longer time then.

My experience with Fox Run Brands is really beneficial. I have learned more about the customer goods and e-commerce industry. One of the most exciting things is that I have the chance to learn about Amazon advertising. I have been analyzing and creating different ads on both Amazon Vendor Central and Seller Central. Working for this company will be one of my choices after graduation

For me, the internship ended today. I was waving goodbye and hugging my team, my project team, and the whole class of Ogilvy interns this afternoon. Excuse me as I got long-winded a bit.
After everything, I learned the foundation of almost all aspects of advertising: from research, planning, strategy, to creative, production, and (data-driven) delivery. My work in the Social Practice allows me to get between the tech and humanities. I learned to look at conversation data for peaks, percentages, while using my understanding of culture to decipher the core behind the conversations. I was tasked with looking out into the industry and find the best and latest in Social, to enrich both myself and my team; I got to look into social platforms to understand them inside and out.
The best part though is to get to know the people. The whole class of interns are genuine, kind, and incredible driven. I found out that my network expanded 3 folds with them in it, and that they taught me so much during my time working on a project with them.
I completed my internship with a greater network, many more friends, and a direction. I know that the Associates Program of Ogilvy is difficult thing to enter (no fast track I guess), but I will use every bit of myself and what I learned here to get in again.Still, Ogilvy has given me the ability and strength to go at opportunities, even ones I have not thought of.

My experience at RSM was very informative and fun. The team I worked with had a great group of people from the associate level, all the way up to partners. As far as the work I did, getting a chance to go behind the scenes of an ERP implementation was extremely informative. My only regret was that my time at this internship was so short, which limited my ability to learn even more. This internship as a consultant definitely allowed me to narrow down which direction I want to take my career. I’m coming into my last week, where I hope to receive word on whether I can come on full time.
-
My experience at Universal Health Services has been very positive. I have learned a lot and met many great people including the people on my team and the other interns on different teams. I never really considered going into a health care field, but it seems like a very rewarding job and the people that work here really love what they do. I have never worked in an office setting so it was very different for me, but the culture here seems like a good fit and something I could get used to. My supervisor has asked me to join the team full time when I graduate in December, which I am very fortunate for. I am excited to see where this experience will take me in my career.
-
I had an amazing experience at Campbells! I loved almost everything about it: the culture, the people, meaningful work for an intern. I’m very grateful for this internship and the impact it has had on me – as well as the opportunity for me to make an impact at the company.
I will stay on part-time during the year to lead a project that I’ve been working on – I’m very excited for the journey ahead!
-
I have had a great experience this summer with Cigna. I still have two more weeks left, and will spend the last week in Connecticut where the interns will be presenting our projects to senior leaders. The internship ends on the 17th, and I will find out if I will be offered a full-time position shortly after, but I am considering staying on part-time once school starts. Overall, my internship has been awesome and provided me with so many opportunities to learn, meet new people, and push myself out of my comfort zone. I’ve liked being a part of a program because it gave me the opportunity to meet full-time associates who are generally around the same age as me and hear about their experiences/why they chose Cigna. Everyone I’ve met has been so friendly and willing to help, which has made this learning experience very fun and I am very grateful that I got to spend my summer at such a great company.
-
Today my internship at Ernst and Young ended, and it was all that I could have ever wanted. I got to meet some extraordinary people and learn quality skills that will last me for a lifetime. I was able to network with employees and interns from all over the country and world this past week at our International Intern Leadership Conference in Disney. As well as get to hear some unbelievable speakers and take part in leadership/team-building activities. During the course of my internship I learned a lot about not just Risk Advisory but also myself and how I like to work. I am pleased to announce that I have been able to take this opportunity and turn it into a full-time offer for next year!

This has been a fantastic one, I will certainly remember it for the rest of my life. Beyond running Vitris I completed my bachelors degree, this assignment being the last one of my college career. We’ve grown a lot together at Vitris over the past couple months, I’m constantly looking back and thinking about what I’ve done wrong in the past which gives me a feeling of progress because we continue to overcome obstacles. Although the mistakes of the past bother me, they also help shape our wins of today so hopefully the mistakes I’m making today will shape our progress of the future.
I continue to receive job offers from recruiters, hiring managers and people in my network. However, I’m pretty happy with the position Vitris is in today and will keep working full-time for the foreseeable future.

What lessons did you learn during your internship that you just couldn’t learn in the classroom or from a textbook?
-
Some lessons I learned during my internship that could not be learned in the classroom are how to be proactive, completing the steps to actually implementing an ERP system, and client communication over the phone.
Since I’m just an intern I do not have a workload of my own and am reliant on my team members to delegate work to me, so part of what I learned about being proactive is asking for work from each team member that way they were aware I had free time to help them on their projects.
As far as implementing an ERP system, we can learn theory in the classroom, but when its an actual client it is a whole new experience and how to handle the changes are a part of the lessons I have learned.
Lastly, phone calls are my biggest weakness, but a part of being a good consultant is being able to communicate effectively over the phone to the client. Good phone communication allows meetings to go quicker, the correct information gathered, and the reduction in confusion as to what needs to be done. -
A few things I’ve learned throughout my internship so far is how large corporations operate and communicate. I never worked in a company this large before with so many departments. I’ve learned that communication is key in being succesful in this kind of job because when you run into an issue you have to propertly communicate that to another department. A great example for this is while some people in IT communicate one way, others in servicing may be less experienced in technology and communicate in simpler terms when having to complete an online task.
-
Another thing I’ve realized that we didn’t read in textbooks is that the company culture & environment is very important in the success of a business. When you are empowered to make your own decisions rather than micromanaged, you have a greater chance of being successful in your goals. In a company with a warm learning environment, you are also brought up by the people around you, this helps motivate you to improve daily.
-
-
One thing I learned from my internship that I could not learn in the classroom is that even though UHS is a huge company with many different teams that contribute different things, we all need to work together to accomplish tasks. You may think that one team is completely unrelated to another one, but if you want to implement a change there is a huge possibility that many teams will be effected by that change. So it is crucial to communicate with one another. Communication and working in teams is something you can learn in the classroom, but to this degree is something you have to experience in the corporate world. Another thing is phone etiquette like when you are on a conference call with many people. It is important to not cut people off, but equally important to be able to get your input in there. At first, it was hard for me to interject, but sometimes it is what you need to do and I have become more comfortable with it.
-
Selling products in the e-commerce is the things that I could not just learn the classroom. In class, we usually study about what is digital marketing, e-commerce, how it looks like, how can we figure the strategies for it but we did not learn the real-life skills of it. As working in the Sales Analyst position, I have to deal a lot with e-commerce skills. I started learning different new skills about this area that I had not learned in class.
-
Couldn’t agree more with being comfortable with being uncomfortable. It feels like almost everyday half of my calendar is rearranged.
-
Like a lot of answers above, I agree that communication cannot be learned from a textbook. Each company has different styles of communication. At goPuff, it’s common to call each other “bro” or “fam”, and use emojis in our Slack channel. This is directly related to their young culture. It takes me a little bit of time to adjust my communication style to my coworkers since I was used to the formal Fox school style. Knowing what is appropriate and not over the line is important when your boss is only a few years younger than you.
-
Most of what I learn on this internship and the last were new to me, as Fox does not have a structured course in advertising or agency work. There are a few key things that can’t be learned in a classroom:
– How a particular organization works: how each person work with other members in the team; how knowledge-sharing works on Slack and other channels; and who specializes on what area, regardless of titles.
– Technical skills: an organization can use a specialized set of tools for analytics, research, and intelligence, requiring newcomers to attend training in each tool set.
– Strategic thinking: by working on real projects with real clients, I practiced approaching a problem and solving it in terms of industry and company-specific frameworks.
= Relationship management: managing expectations from colleagues and bosses; learning how to ask for advice and learn new things; and showing initiative at key moments.
– Tons of industry knowledge: after many years in operation, the organization has amassed a vast amount of past cases, best practices, and unique lessons. I learned a lot just by looking through Ogilvy’s archive of slide decks and marketing cases. -
One thing I’ve learned from working at Campbells, the same thing as a lot of previous comments mentioned, is the importance of tracking and following up – taking ownership of something until it is done. Before, I was used to the thinking that as long as I do my part well, others’ parts are their responsibilities – however, working in the real world, I’ve learned that I’m also responsible for supporting others to do their parts well in order to drive a project to success.
-
Organizational skills cant be taught in class. Everyone has different way of organizing their documents and appointments. Some use planners some use straight memory. I found simple technological tools like outlook calendar and to-do list was very important skill that came handy. Secondly, As I was in charge of managing my department’s JAM site platform is similar to a word press drag drop site. I did not learn the platform in class but fortunately SAP had plenty of tutorials or me to learn this from.
-
A skill that I learned during my internship and not in the classroom would be adjusting to someone working style. During my time with QVC, I had to collaborate with various people from different departments. This experience forced me to learn about their work flow and communication style to be able to work better together. Also, my internship taught me how to manage tasks that are unexpected in time-crunch situations. At times, something might come up and I would have to drop everything and direct my attention to a completely different task. This taught me how to stay calm & not panic and manage my time better when things come up.
