In my Cloud Architecture class, I was assigned to a semester-long project to complete the AWS Academy Foundations module on the AWS Academy’s canvas page. The AWS Foundations course helped me gain an overall understanding of cloud computing concepts, independent of specific technical roles. It provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support.

Learning Design Thinking: Lead Change in Your Organization
In the course titled, “Learning Design Thinking: Lead Change in Your Organization” I learned about understanding design thinking which is user centered with a focus on solving problems though collaboration. Mapping the customers journey, building concepts, and prototyping all put the user’s needs at the forefront. And having effective leadership is essential to making design thinking work. Leaders in the organization need to be setting cleat goals, aligning the team, and be able to effectively manage people with different skill sets, cultures, and personalities. I also learned that prototyping quickly and often is helpful to test and refine ideas. And creating them early and learning to embrace the failures early on is encouraged.

AWS Academy Cloud Foundations
I recently completed the AWS Academy Cloud Foundations course, a program with skills in cloud computing using Amazon Web Services. Sponsored by AWS, this course covered topics such as cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and billing. My role throughout the course was actively participating in lectures, labs, and knowledge checks to deepen my understanding of cloud computing principles and AWS services.
Through completing all the Knowledge Checks and hands-on labs, I learned key concepts such as scalability, elasticity, and fault tolerance. By exploring various AWS services such as Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, and AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), I acquired practical skills in provisioning resources, storing data securely, and managing user access within the AWS environment. Moreover, I developed an understanding of cloud security best practices, including encryption, compliance, and incident response, all for safeguarding cloud-based assets and ensuring data privacy.

Normal weight, overweight, and obesity among American Men and Women
Goals:
Results:
In this dataset, I discovered that gender is a moderate influencer of a healthy BMI, as 27.22% of men are considered to have a “healthy” BMI, compared to 28.09% of women.
Learning Lessons:
Overall, I wasn’t too surprised to discover that women were considered “healthier” than men in US society. What surprised me the most was the ability to navigate the data. While completing this assignment, I realized how misunderstanding data can be. For instance, I tried running a for loop on the ESTIMATE column, but it wouldn’t run through due to a mysterious data issue. Also, it took me a long time to understand what the data was trying to measure. On the data website, there was a vague description on the kind + quantity of population that the data set was trying to measure. It took a series of trial-and-error calculations to find a significant statistic. Having the skillset to figure out dataset errors is crucial, as I imagine there will be plenty of instances in my future career where a dataset cannot be accurately automated due to dirty data. As I encounter more datasets, the statistic that data scientist’s spend 60% of their work cleaning dirty data becomes increasingly clear to me.

MIS2402 PRO Point Project
This project, sponsored by the MIS dept., was assigned to me to submit for additional pro points. I learned how to extract data from a meta data set, unlike normal sets we worked with in class, and I got some good coding practice for iterating through APIs.

Pro Point Project
In this project, I created a website that analyzed a specific dataset and provided relevant information about the benefits from the data. This specific dataset was themed around the amount of fully electric and hybrid vehicles that have been registered by the Washington State Department of Licensing. I then hypothesized what the results would be and explained how it could benefit society. This activity was extremely helpful to my Web App Development skills because I had to create the HTML and script code from scratch. I enjoyed the challenge and will utilize the lessons I have learned from this project.

CertificateOfCompletion_Microsoft Project 2016 Essential Training
The first I watch was about a course that teaches Microsoft Project 2016 core features, including setting up project components, resource availability and cost, linking tasks, assigning resources, and evaluating schedules and workloads. Author Bonnie Biafore, a Project Management Professional, also covers new features like multiple timelines and the “Tell me what you want to do” field. The second video is about design thinking is a user-centered approach to problem-solving that involves collaboration, mapping customer journeys, and prototyping. This course teaches leaders how to adopt this mindset and provides examples from Turi McKinley’s work at frog, a global design firm. It covers definitions, roles, and strategies, as well as creative collaboration, planning, research, concept creation, and prototyping techniques.
