An important take away from Ryan Oliveira’s talk on Thursday was that data can be used for multiple objectives. You could find ways to improve your business by using data, select who you would want to talk to in relations of your business, and even when you think there is little data there is always more data to find. I learned that data can be a…[Read more]

I believe the most important thing to take away from this class is MySQL and data mining. I believe these two are the most beneficiary to me because of the way I could now explain data and view it in certain forms. I would explain to an employer that I can use these skills to my advantage in any data related problem that may have occurred or that…[Read more]

A Thanksgiving themed question that clustering could be useful for is, “How many families eat Ham instead of Turkey on Thanksgiving?”. The data that will be needed to complete this clustering event is who is eating ham and who is eating turkey. Also another piece of data that can further specify the clusters is why they eat ham instead of turkey.

A business decision we can solve by using a decision tree is “Who is performing well enough to receive a promotion?”. A decision tree can help solve this because it will show who is performing the best, who is performing moderately, and who is performing the worst. Some data we would collect for this decision tree would be their time sheets,…[Read more]

A Data Cube can be used in a restaurant’s business. A data cube can answer the question of the best meal of the night. The dimensions of this data cube would be the day, the meals, and the orders. The measured facts would be how many times the meal was ordered.

Data could be placed differently in sports games. It could be placed Points, Rebounds and Assists in some box score websites. But for other websites they could place their Field Goal Percentage first and then Rebounds on to Steals. Each website would be able to change it to the way that they can view their data the quickest and easiest.

This infographic created a good story by telling us where we should go and why we should go to each place. I think it is a good representation of Data Visualization because it shows each places with pictures and things to do there. Also, it…[Read more]

Working at my job over the summer, a join can be used when the boss was figuring out what to put on the menu. A supplier table and a menu table would be used as a join in this situation. The primary key in the supplier table would be supplier ID and the menu table primary key would be date of food. The boss would need to join these together to…[Read more]

In my opinion, the trickiest part of the ERD’s is the cardinality because of the many possibilities that one could have during the situation. Also, finding out if it is a many to many or one to many is a tricky part that corresponds with cardinality. The best advice i could give for cardinality would be to read the scenario thoroughly and read it…[Read more]

This past summer, I worked in the kitchen of an Assisted Living Community for elderly people. Here I learned many communication skills and progressed in my ability to speak in front of many people and all types of age variations. But at work, I would make sheets of when certain people would come down for lunch or dinner. This was a way to…[Read more]
