Hack4Good Global Hackathon

hack4good-geeklist-cheers

In February 2014, I participated in Geeklist’s Hack4Good 0.5. This was a 48 hour long hackathon where software developers, technology enthusiasts and entrepreneurs from over 25 cities worldwide connected online and onsite to build projects for NGOs and non-profit organizations. My team had the pleasure of working with the National Housing Resource Center, an advocacy organization who’s mission is to provide easier access to those in need of housing counseling agencies. For our project, we built a content management system using the web platform Drupal to make the NHRC more organized with their contacts, congressmen, mailings and events. We also used a SQL database, PHP, a congressional district API and different modules and extensions of Drupal. As a result of our excellent teamwork, the usefulness of our project and the fact that we worked closely with our sponsor throughout the duration of the 48 hours, my team won 1st place in Philadelphia, making us a global finalist. To see a more detailed description of the project, check out our project card on the Geeklist website.
