Asking the Right Questions in Your Job Search Confirmation

  1. Name of sponsoring organization
    1. Opportunity Knocks
  2. Details of the activity (e.g., where, when)
    1. Online Zoom Meeting, November 10th
  3. What you learned
    1. During this event, I learned a lot about how asking the right questions during a job interview can make me stand out as a candidate. Asking about the potential trajectory of the role and what a typical day looks like can be helpful in understanding the responsibilities and expectations of the position. It’s also a good idea to ask open-ended questions that allow the interviewer to provide more in-depth answers and give me a better understanding of the company and the role. Asking about the opportunity to work with other teams, development opportunities, company culture, work-life balance, diversity, and growth opportunities can also be helpful. These types of questions can help me determine whether the position is the right fit for me.
  4. How the activity relates to coursework or your career goals
    1. When I eventually start interviewing for tech positions it’s important for me to ask about development opportunities and growth potential within the company, as these can help me continue to build my skills and advance my career in the field. Asking about the company’s culture and values can be important, as aligning with these can help me thrive and be more fulfilled in my role. Asking about the company’s approach to innovation and new ideas can also be helpful in understanding how the company approaches the use of technology and how I may be able to contribute in this area. Additionally, it can be beneficial to ask about the team that I would be working with and the role that they play in the company, as this can give me a sense of the collaborative environment and how I may fit in with the team.
