Getting started with 5 fundamental domains of cybersecurity governance

  1. Name of sponsoring organization
    1. NetCom
  2. Details of the activity (e.g., where, when)
    1. Online webinar, November 3th
  3. What you learned
    1. In this webinar, I learned about using a risk matrix to analyze risks qualitatively, highlighting the importance of considering suppliers’ vulnerabilities, and ensuring compliance with various regulations and standards such as PCI-DSS, CCPA, HIPAA, and GDPR. A risk matrix is a tool used in risk management to identify and prioritize risks based on their likelihood and potential impact, and it’s vital to vet suppliers and ensure they have adequate controls in place to protect against threats. Businesses must also follow relevant regulations and standards to avoid fines and protect sensitive data.
  4. How the activity relates to coursework or your career goals
    1. Going into the tech field, I will likely be responsible for managing data within an organization, which would involve identifying and mitigating risks to ensure the security of the data systems. Understanding how to use tools like risk matrices and how to assess the vulnerabilities of suppliers can help me effectively manage risks in my future organization. Additionally, being familiar with relevant regulations and standards as mentioned in the webinar is important for ensuring that my organization’s systems are compliant and are protecting sensitive information. Having this knowledge will be valuable in my career since I will be responsible for helping my organization navigate the complex landscape of data that they are currently dealing with.
