Who’s on Your Network? A Look At Insider Threats
The Webinar, Hosted by Marie-Christine Martin, invited Tim Black from Vanguard. He is an Internal Audit Director for Cyber-Security at Vanguard and has over 13 years of experience in his field. He clarified at the beginning of his presentation that the information represents his views and opinions only, and the presentation is for informational purposes. Tim began the discussion by defining what an Insider Threat is: “The risk an insider will use their authorized access, wittingly or unwittingly, to do harm to their organization”. He broke down the components of potential threats within businesses and displayed data to show patterns on why and how Insider Threats occur. From bribery, money, politics, and other reasons, these are common motivations for Insider Threats. Tim also described how damaging these threats can be. 11.45 million dollars is the average loss a company faces due to Insider Threats. Time wrapped up the presentation emphasizing the importance of preparation and prevention and how to minimize the risk of Insider Threats.
