How to Prevent Social Engineering Attacks In 40 Minutes

Organization: NetCom Learning

When: Tuesday, November 29 @ 1 pm

Social engineering is the art of convincing people to reveal confidential information. Common targets of social engineering attacks include help desks, technical support, and the system admins of an organization or person. There are multiple factors that make companies vulnerable to attacks such as insufficient security training, unregulated access to information, and lack of security policies.

Social engineering countermeasures include:

  • password policies
  • proper physical security policies
  • defense strategies
  • training individuals on security policies
  • implementing proper access privileges
  • proper incident responses
  • background verification and proper termination of employees
  • antivirus/anti-phishing defense
  • multi-factor authentication
  • changing management
  • regular software updates

This relates to my career in IT business and the fact that social engineering is present in our everyday lives on the internet. It is helpful and critical to know the measures to take in order to remedy the effects that a social engineering attack comes with for both yourself or the organization you work for.
