Speaking Confidently and Effectively

Type of course: Professional skills

I learned that in order to speak effectively in the workplace, you must give the listener what they need to know, instead of everything that you know. When you are straightforward in your words, they are more likely to retain more and also ask for more information if needed. Another important thing is to tailor your words to be listener-centered instead of speaker-centered. Be sure to lead with what is important to the listener instead of what you think is important.

Making an eye connection with the listener for a sentence or two can be very powerful and can build relationship and trust. When sitting or standing, your hands should be waist high to assert confidence.

This related to my career goals because working in a professional environment will definitely require effective communication skills to other employees and employers.
