ISACA – All Roads Lead to Risk
This event was hosted by ISACA via online on August 12, 2020. The guest speaker for this event was Lisa Young, the Vice President of Cyber Risk Engineering at Axio.
In this webinar, Lisa discussed her practices of risk management and assessment. She talked about the hierarchy of risk assessment and the different roles that are played when relaying new risks found in a company. She also discussed a common scale used when determining how much risk a company is prepared to accept. This is called risk appetite, where as risk tolerance is the amount of risk a company is willing to accept relative to the risk appetite. Although Lisa gave examples of different scales and the importance of them, she expressed it is equally important to not rush to scale everything, as it can do more harm than good.
Having recently finished the Risk Management course at Temple University, I found understanding Lisa’s presentation much easier. A lot of terms she used were easily translated, although they were different from the course itself. This webinar helped further my understanding of how important risk management is to a company, as well as how important it is to have set strategies to tackle the many potential risks that can be presented.
